We spent a delightful afternoon at Evermore Wine Bar & Café, a charming spot recommended to us by a friend. The café, tucked away in the corner of Bergen Village Shopping Center was still adorned with holiday decorations, adding a festive touch to its already cozy, hygge-inspired atmosphere. From the moment we stepped inside, we were warmly welcomed and promptly seated, even though we arrived a little ahead of our reservation.
The space itself is intimate, with an inviting outdoor patio that likely bustles during sunny, warmer days. The atmosphere exudes warmth and elegance, with deep, inviting colors, stunning murals of intricately painted peacocks, luxurious velvet sofas, and opulent, richly draped curtains. While waiting for the rest of our party, we browsed the menu and were pleasantly surprised by the extensive wine offerings. Beyond an impressive array of coffee drinks, mocktails, and artisanal cocktails, the wine list spanned six pages, featuring options by the glass, intriguing wine flights, and bottles perfect for sharing.
We kicked things off with some unique cocktails: the Fleur de Paradisâa refreshing mix of gin, grapefruit juice, elderflower, and champagneâan espresso martini, and the Evermore Sunset. Each was beautifully crafted and delicious.
For lunch, the special of the day, a panini with thinly sliced ribeye and grilled mushrooms, was an immediate favorite. Other choices included the Prosciutto and Brie panini, Grilled Chicken panini, and Caesar saladâall expertly prepared and flavorful. While the food menu is not particularly extensive, we all agreed that it could benefit from more shareable appetizers or entrĂ©e options.
A couple of our group opted for wine flights, expertly curated to pair with their meals, with the helpful guidance of Josh, our attentive and knowledgeable server. One disappointing detail we noticed was that some of the wine glasses were not as impeccably clean and polished as one would expect. In fact, one glass even had a small hair inside. While we chose not to raise a complaint, greater attention to detail in glassware cleanliness is essentialâparticularly in the bright sunlight, where every imperfection becomes unmistakably visible.
Our table in a cozy back corner featured deep pink plush sofas and elegant high-back chairs. Though the sunâs intensity through the glass doors was slightly overpowering, the ambiance remained inviting, with a gas fireplace adding a touch of warmth. We also noticed an afternoon tea service on offer, which looked intriguing and worth trying on a future visit. There are fun, antique-looking hats Iâm thinking you can borrow for high tea.
While the prices are slightly higher than other cafés, the impeccable service, thoughtful details, and ambiance more than justify the cost. Evermore Wine Bar & Café is a gem, and I look forward to returning to this delightful...
Read moreI have never written a negative review. I have called Olga the owner twice to give her an opportunity to make this right, and neither of my calls have been returned, consistent with my experience. I booked high tea with my friend and her daughters; it was our 10th annual.
We usually do The Brown Palace, but we decided to mix it up and support this newer establishment-HUGE mistake!! When we arrived, we were told that someone had messed up our reservation and not noted it was high tea, and weâd have to wait 30 min, if they even had the high tea items.
Our waiter then came over and started by telling us how stressed he was that the other waiter hadnât shown up yet and he didnât know how much he could help us. As we waited for our tea, he came over and told us he was studying to be a sommelier. He then ignored his other customers and guest lectured about every nuance of the curriculum in the most socially unaware way possible. My teen daughter said at the conclusion of the tea that this man should not work with people, really that bad.
Our food came, and it was inedible, truly. The desserts were awful. The sandwiches were on old bread and terrible as well. We noticed the cucumber sandwiches were missing cucumbers. Another waiter offered to remake, a relative of the ownerâŠlots of randoms pretending to be wait staff. He came back and said they were just bread with traces of cream cheese because they were out of cucumbers?! We all went home very hungry. This was somehow $60 a person?! The service the most unprofessional Iâve experienced; the food DISGUSTING. Our special annual tea time together truly awful. It didnât have to be Brown Palace worthy, but terrible start to finish.
The waiter came to introduce himself to three ladies seated next to us as we were leaving. He said, âIâm actually off the clock, but since I havenât clocked out yet, I guess I can tell you the menu.â He then told these women that service would not be good tonight with a litany of excuses.
I tried to find one positiveâŠhere it is: the place is decorated beautifully, lots of attention to detail and unique touches. And, thatâs the only good thing I can say. Avoid this one at ALL costs. Everyone around us were first timers like us, guessing repeat business not a thing. I still canât believe we tipped 20% and somehow felt sorry for all involved...
Read moreThe view outside is the only redeeming feature of this place. Everything else was a masterclass in incompetence. Perhaps a different staff would have made the experience bearable, but the three servers working Saturday afternoon didnât seem to know the first thing about wine, the menu, or even basic service.
We sat for fifteen minutes before anyone brought water or bothered to take our order; this with three employees milling around and only a handful of tables occupied. When they finally approached, each server asked if we had ordered yet, a dead giveaway that none of them were communicating. We ordered three wine flights, a single glass, and an appetizer tower, then waited another twenty minutes just to see a drink - even the lone single glass.
The final insult came when one of the wines in a flight was unavailable. Instead of replacing it with another French wine, as we asked, they decided the best course was to duplicate a wine already in the flight, completely missing the point of ordering a flight. When we refused, they tried to bluff their way through by claiming they only carried one other French wine. That would have been interesting, considering the single glass I ordered was French. When I pointed this out, they waved it off and said, âOh yeah, itâs a Sauvignon Blanc.â It wasnât. It was a Chardonnay.
The view may be nice, but if you actually care about good wine and competent service, head down the road to Creekside Winery. Itâs infinitely better...
