G & D Steakhouse — Restaurant in Columbia

First time here on a Friday evening. Immediately seated, no line but it was busy. Different atmosphere, very good service! We kind of knew what to expect from other reviews. It's a bit different than what you might expect. As you walk in there's a stack of cafeteria trays to your left. You order, pick up your flatware, salad, and drink then pay at the counter and find a booth or table. I had the G&D Steak Special which is an 8 ounce sirloin with a baked potato, salad, and Texas toast. The medium rare steak was cooked to PERFECTION! One of the best I've had in a while. However, odd, it wasn't seasoned at all so I used table salt and pepper. My wife had a gyro which she said was excellent. The prices were less than what we expected (always a plus)! The atmosphere was interesting. It's just a sparcely decorated little joint, very subdued, as we like it. The service was great! The wait staff checked on us multiple times and were super. You can tell they enjoy working there and have good management. Overall, a good experience except not realizing there's no seasoning on the steak (maybe that's how they do it)? My personal experience was just blah. The staff (cooks and server)were not friendly whatsoever. Now, the gentleman who rang us out was a pleasant person with manners. When we entered the establishment, not ONE person said hello or welcome. The vibe was like we were bothering them with our business. Honestly, I really try not to give bad reviews but this time I must. The other location of G&D ( on Broadway) they are very friendly and accommodating to ALL of their customers. We have been to this location before and it was the same as the first time...just RUDE!! I wonder about if they treat just certain people this way. It was myself and a male friend who ate in here. I noticed if there was a female coming in they treated her like a queen. I recommend that they change the way they greet and handle their customers. One never knows who they are waiting on. We are big tippers but this time we left a small tip. Our server NEVER once came over to refill our water glasses. She came and walked by our table rather quickly without stopping and "kinda", asked how things were and that was because she felt obligated. The whole scenario was just...

Tonight was a step into the past which turned into the best decision ever. I looked online for a steakhouse near me. Your establishment came up. I read the good reviews! We were in town for the MU football game. I was fascinated when I walked in and saw the delightful charm that reminded me of my childhood. Moments spent with my grandfather, (who had come from Greece) when I was a young girl. We placed our order at the counter, picked up salad and dessert and went to our table. When the meals arrived, they were picture perfect! We had ordered steak, baked potato and shrimp. The steaks were cooked to perfection. Honestly, the baked potatoes were the best I had eaten in years. I could go on and on. I really appreciated how friendly the staff were. A little extra plus 2 football players that were there with family. We sat back and enjoyed the whole experience. Did I mention, the food was so tasty!!!
