We order take out from several locations and were excited when this one opened because it's the first one with a decent dining room. Well, we're going to stick with take-out. It was actually laughable. A first-time ADHD waiter who disappeared for 1/2 hour at a time, bounced around like a pinball, and never remembered anything. The family that owns it (?) seemed to be in the semi-private dining room. They would come out and go into the kitchen or behind the register, then return to their table - one of them brought us a free appetizer and an apology because we had been waiting 30 minutes for our food. Nice of her to notice. But that was just the beginning. Sparing the gruesome details I'll skip to the end - waiting for the check - waiting - finally asked one of the women in the owners' group if she could get it. She went behind the register and looked around but came back out without anything in her hand. She ran into an old friend (?) on the way back, whom she hugged and chatted with. She did not seem to have any intention of coming back. Still no sign of our waiter, and it had now been quite a while. I finally stood up, put $40 on the table (roughly the amount of my check - I guess, having not seen it - probably a couple of bucks under) and walked out the door (2 1/2 hours after the time we had arrived).
I'll order take out from Hanover and pick it up on the way home from work because the food really is delicious. But I'm not going back to this locale - and if I do, I most certainly will take my food home. And if I may so humbly make a suggestion to the owner - a busy Saturday night with a full house and you are short-staffed (I think our waiter was actually a new busboy who got thrown into the deep end of the pool) is maybe not the best time for a family reunion in the restaurant. You can do that on a slow night... And even if you do own the place, giving toddlers free reign to run around the room while you dine is not a particularly considerate thing to do to...
Read moreTake a step with me into Afghanistan where the mountains are high, the people are friendly, and the food is the definition of “comfort”. Maiwand Kabob delivers a truly authentic Afghan dining experience, blending rich flavors with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. From the moment you step inside, the fragrant aroma of spices like cardamom, coriander, and cumin fills the air, setting the stage for a memorable meal.
The highlight of their menu has to be the kabobs, cooked to perfection with a smoky char on the outside and a juicy, tender inside. The lamb kabob is especially noteworthy; seasoned generously and paired with fragrant basmati rice, it’s melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The chicken kabob is equally satisfying, with a subtle spice that complements the flavorful meat rather than overpowering it.
One of the standout aspects is the selection of Afghan side dishes, especially the mantu (Afghan dumplings) and bolani (stuffed flatbread). The mantu, filled with spiced ground beef and topped with a savory yogurt sauce, is a must-try. Meanwhile, the bolani is crisp and stuffed with potato and herbs, making it a perfect appetizer. Their naan is freshly baked, soft, and the perfect accompaniment for soaking up every bit of sauce.
Maiwand Kabob's ambiance, friendly staff, and reasonable prices make it a go-to for Afghan cuisine in the area. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a regular, the consistent quality and flavor keep you coming back. This is more than just a meal; it’s an experience that brings a taste of Afghanistan...
Read moreFood is good but they are less knowledgeable about their food ingredients(which contains allergens or not)they use
Today, we went to dine-in to the restaurant around 1:30pm, a family of 4 and one of us has severe food allergies(peanut and egg). The person(female) who took our order, let us know that pretty much all the kebobs has eggs and the gyro platter is safe to eat. We ordered the family platter with extra Chapli 3 kebob, 1 gyro platter for the person who is allergic to egg and peanut(because that's the only safe option! We also ordered 3 mango shakes and a yogurt drink. After the first byte on gyro platter, the person had allergic reactions and had to spend most of the time in the restroom. We wanted to talk to the manager and the manager(a bald male with a goatee) came to the table and confirmed that they do not use any eggs or peanuts for any of their dishes only except for their breads(no apologies for the inconvenience). We did not argue with anything and let it slide left the restaurant later on. In my opinion, the food is great if you don't have food allergies but they are either less knowledgeable about the ingredients they used to make their foods or they tried to cover up the situation with straigh up lies! We were provided 2 different types of info regarding the food allergens which is not right or fair to the customers. The person who takes the orders needs to know the exact information about the food allergens as well as...
