I love bbq. After reading a lot of reviews regarding the food I was looking forward to trying it. Also I've always wanted to try the low country red hash from famous Duke's BBQ in Orangeburg. With the owner having connections to Duke's BBQ I had high hopes. So I got my wife tickets for the Cinch Rodeo and went to eat before the event. The restaurant is a small place with large tables. The atmosphere is cozy. This was a plus. For three adults it was $55 dollars but for some good BBQ, a small price to pay. Unfortunately the BBQ was not "$55" good. The buffet is only Fired chicken, hash and rice, chopped pork, Mac & cheese, beans, hash puppies and banana pudding. 1: Hash. This is nothing like your traditional hash. It's very thin with a very rich tomato base. If you're like me and prefer a thicker meaty hash, this is not your hash. I can say I've tried it but want be going back for seconds. 2: Chopped pork. This is where they definitely lost me. Chopped pork should be tender, smokey, and juicy. This is tough, fatty, and no flavor. Their meat is definitely not smoked, has to be cooked over gas. This was a major negative. 3: Fired Chicken: Now this was the best part of the meal. The chicken is as it should be. Crispy, tender, and juicy. But went for BBQ not chicken.
So overall it's pricey for the quality and it's unfortunate they don't smoke their pork. I will not be going back and hopefully this helps anyone looking for authentic BBQ....
Read moreTerrible. I paid over $15 for a small wing, 3 ribs, a plate full of slop (hash and rice), 2 hush puppies, and a few fork fulls of mushy macaroni, and a side of water. The ribs were tough and dry The chicken was VERY small The Mac N Cheese was just mushy macaroni with burnt shredded cheese mixed around in it, usually in clumps. The "BBQ" sauce was actually some Mustard concoction which was awful. I don't know anyone that thinks of mustard when they think of BBQ, but I was sadly disappointed. Here I am in the South and I couldn't get a solid BBQ meal? There were a few silver linings: the water was cold and free, the hush puppies were pretty good, they have this mush that is called 'Hash and Rice' that is good for a handful of bites but then gets too heavy and repetitive. Oh yeah, the roll they gave me was tiny and firm. The only reason I rated Service 'Good' was because the girls that helped were smiling and ready to take my order. That was the only interaction I had with them though. I will NEVER go back here, even if they offered free...
Read moreWow, this place is great. First time here and so glad we chose it. Buffet for two was $30.00. which is fine because it was delicious. Family style seating. We were lucky because we were there after the rush. Was a little skeptical about the sauce being that I was born in the north and I don't use mustard, but their original sauce is a golden dream. Pork, fried chicken and coleslaw were my choices for the first plate. Amazing. Coleslaw was wet, shredded ( not minced)and flavorful, which is something I just don't find here. Got a chance to speak with the cooks and told them we were very pleased and will return. My only personal issue was that I thought the potato salad had salt in it. They assured me that it didn't but it may have been me as I hardly ever use salt. Still get 5 stars.
Update, 4/28/23 still good however they changed the coleslaw to minced and it's like eating baby food. Please change...
