Asian Star China Buffet — Restaurant in Columbus

It was absolutely disgusting. Everything was no joke ice cold. It says that I even had to ask them how fresh this stuff was and they couldn't give me a good answer. It's sad that I just got done paying over $20 for a meal when all I eat was the dessert because they still said that I had to pay even though I wasn't going to eat anything. At least the dessert was okay but now I'm still hungry and going to spend money elsewhere to actually eat food. I even asked if they had a microwave and could heat up my plate so I was eating hot food and they didn't like that very much.

Update: Went to the location up on sawmill road and it was absolutely revolting. The first started off horrible when they ruined and completely messed up our drink order. No big deal people can make mistakes but then it really went downhill when literally everything on the buffet was ice cold and I was laughed at when I asked if they had a microwave and could warm up my food. I literally had one or two bites in which I spit out because it was so cold and I did not eat anything. I then told them at the front and they still charged me for the entire meal even though I did not eat anything. I will most definitely be contacting my bank here in a few minutes to dispute the charges when I have to pay for something that I did not even consume

Our last experience at this restaurant was a couple of years ago, and was very disappointing. It used to be a favorite, and we had family celebrations there for years - graduation and birthday parties.

However, we noticed that over time, while the food was still hot and good quality, the seats had become worn, the vinyl torn, their springs sprung and no longer comfortable. The carpeting was torn in spots, greasy and dirty. The tables appeared to be wiped with dirty cloths.

A cleaning bucket began to be left in view in the dining area, with dirty water and protruding floor mops, rags, etc. The bathrooms were often dirty.

Very disturbing was a new cleaning and/or kitchen crew. On their breaks, they came into the seating area and carried on long, loud complaining-sounding conversations with one another.

Pat, the manageress was always friendly and polite, and we got to know her, and she, us.

But because of the conditions described above, we no longer feel comfortable or welcome in this restaurant. We miss its better days, the enjoyable family celebrations we had there, and the friendliness that used to be the norm.

The one-star rating I've chosen is symbolic of our hope that the owners of Asian Star will choose to close down for a short period, and thoroughly renovate the inside, lay down the law with the kitchen and cleaning staff, and generally raise their standards, so that they can be a first-class, welcoming...

This is a small buffet that will run you $17/person for an adult dinner buffet and $9 for a children’s dinner buffet. Drinks, of course are extra.

So here’s the good news: there’s ample seating, it’s never insanely busy and you are seated right away.

The bad news: literally every dish that I tried- from the sesame chicken to the chicken nuggets, were lukewarm at best. There just wasn’t much of a selection to begin with.

The worst part: every time someone in my party went to get a new plate, there were MANY dirty dishes with food all over them that hadn’t been thoroughly washed that needed to be sorted through until a clean plate could be found. The buckets that held the bowls for the soups were loaded with dirty bowls, so much so that I had to ask my husband if that was where the clean bowls were supposed to be or if it was truly just a dirty dish bin. Turns out, it was what they were using as their “clean” dishes after all! It was absolutely disgusting and I’ve never seen anything quite like it.

Maybe their dishwashers are broken. Maybe they are short staffed. Maybe it was just a bad day. But regardless…

For $17, there are sooooo many other options even within walking distance to try. I’m sure this place was wonderful at its inception, but it is possibly the worst Chinese buffet that I’ve ever had...
