My girlfriend and I have been on the hunt for the infamous sushi panini and saw that Domo offered one. Upon entering the space, the atmosphere is fine. It’s dimly lit and quaint, but unfortunately that makes it quite loud in there when it’s busy. This isn’t a big deal and isn’t why we’re reviewing it so poorly.
The service was absolutely horrible. The waitress greeted us with waters and told us she would be back. She came back a few minutes later and didn’t ask for any drinks, which was fine we weren’t planning on drinking any. We wanted to start with the bulgogi fries and take a little more time for entrees, but when we said this she literally scoffed and acted like starting with an appetizer was unheard of and we were inconveniencing her. Okay that’s fine, we’re not difficult people and my girlfriend’s in the service industry so maybe this waitress was just having a bad night. Cut to it taking over 30 minutes to get our appetizer. She never came back to check on us and put in our entrees and I promise you they were not busy. We saw her going to her other table quite frequently. The fries finally arrived and we had paid an extra $4 to get the bulgogi. There were literally three small pieces of meat on the fries. At this point, we were fed up with the service and the vibes were off for whatever reason. This is the only time we’ve just cashed out and left— sorely disappointed.
For an upscale restaurant, the service should be up to par. The fries weren’t bad, but it just wasn’t worth it. Horrible experience, waste of...
Read moreMy partner and I stopped by DOMO in the Short North for a midweek date and lucked out by arriving early enough to catch their happy hour menu—and let me tell you, it was a win. We started with the crispy rice and the sushi paninis with crab. Both appetizers were fantastic—easily the most generous portions I’ve ever seen for a happy hour offering. Honestly, we could’ve split just those two and called it dinner.
The crispy rice was fried to crunchy perfection, and both dishes were elevated by the zesty sauces that brought each bite together. It’s rare that apps outshine the rest of the meal, but in this case, they absolutely stole the show.
We also ordered four sushi rolls off the happy hour menu: California, Philly, spicy tuna, and a specialty roll (the name escapes me). They were good, fresh, and well-prepared—but compared to those appetizers, they felt more like a bonus than a highlight.
Our server was fantastic—attentive without being overbearing. We never had to wait for a drink refill, the timing of each course was spot on, and we felt genuinely well taken care of from start to finish. It made the whole experience even more enjoyable.
If you’re headed to DOMO, don’t sleep on the happy hour—especially those appetizers. I’d go back just for the...

I'm not the world's best authority on sushi, but I have made sushi for three years for various jobs, so I do have some knowledge.
The sushi rice was pleasantly vinegary but also sweet, but not too much. My salmon roll wasn't closed all the way properly-- but I wasn't mad because it was due to the large piece of salmon I got, soft yet firm, fatty and melty and tasty with soy sauce. My red dragon roll was wonderfully spicy thanks to the spicy tuna, but the flavors of the shrimp tempura drifted through and the crunch and pop of tobiko were perfect. There was a light delicate sweetness from the imitation crab on top. Happy hour prices made this a very affordable sushi dinner. Excluding my drink, my two rolls were about $16 in total.
I got the lychee melon smash drink, and while I still think $9 for a drink (at happy hour) is a high price, it was a delicious drink. I could taste the subtle tartness of the lime, the sweetness of the melon calpico, and the hint of lychee hovering underneath. I could taste the alcohol, but it wasn't too strong for my liking.
I really liked the decor-- cozy with brick and warm lighting and flowers everywhere, but still elegant and definitely befitting the...
