TDLR: The high rating is valid for GNJB. If you’re deemed cosmetically/physically acceptable by the bouncers or management policies, please, visit GNJB to have a good time.
My experience was atypical; therefore, I won’t be back to visit the GNJB-Columbus location.
As stated above, our experience was atypical. I would say it was a Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde experience. Our 1st visit was around 7pm, we got drinks on the 1st floor bar and then, went to the rooftop to enjoy the scenery and chat with our out-of-town guests. The place was not busy so we danced a little and stayed about 30 minutes. Only minor issue was the bartender didn’t immediately know what a Tang 15 was until I showed him it was a drink on their menu.
Our party stopped back GNJB around 9pm where my wife and guest bought a couple of shots at the bar while the rest of our party waited outside. GNJB had more patrons but still not overly busy and the queue line ropes (retractable belt line) had not been set-up outside the doors, yet.
After midnight, we decided to return to GNJB for some dancing. The queue lines are up and we wait online. We make it to the door to get patted down, no issues there. Once inside GNJB is packed and the dance floor is stacked with people…just standing around not dancing, just standing. My wife is dancing and decided to sit down (built-in seating around a portion of the dance floor). Within 4 minutes of entering, the bouncer said my wife needed to leave so we were, sadly, escorted out. I believe we were escorted out of the establishment for not fitting the niche profile of the clientele GNJB wants to attract. We are visibly in our mid-40s and not athletically fit (that was painful to admit but it’s truthfully). A part of me would like to fault the rude bouncer for not offering us to get off the dance floor and sitting at a table as not to be seen as “there are old folks in here”. We would have tucked ourselves away at a dark table in the back.
I’ve been around long enough to realize the bouncer was doing what he’s been told to do. So, the onus is on GNJB (Columbus) management. They must have policies in place to dictate which clientele is acceptable and which are not after certain hours. Yes, they have that right as it is their business. That said, I would have preferred to have been told while getting patted down. The door guards could have said, “While you were born in the 70s, your kind is not wanted here after midnight. We want young debutants to stand on the dance floor”. I would have nodded while being shocked that such a thing was said out loud BUT I would have moved along. I appreciate honesty.
Take note this is not a scathing or malicious review; I’m sharing my experience at GNJB. Would I recommend visiting GNJB? Yes, for those whom fit their clientele profile. But, most of the people I know are mid-40s rural folks so if you fit that profile; go before midnight and then, hide in a dark corner somewhere after midnight.
Did discrimination take place at GNJB such as ageism? Meh, who knows I’m certain there could be other reasons such our dress and appearance. I do wonder if the group of black males online behind us made in GHJB or were the turned at the door. Guess I should have...
Read moreRUDE STAFF NOT WORTH THE HYPE! First of all I understand a grand opening can be stressful but when I Went to this place thinking it would be a great time spent with all my friends, I was very disappointed We were getting a section which was $1k for a 3 person couch and a small table (NOT WORTH but idc about price if I’m with my friends) but There was one worker who was extremely rude towards us. He acted like he owned the place when he clearly didn’t. Telling all the other workers we started problems and tried to get us kicked out. We finally got in and there was another line to go upstairs. We didn’t think it was worth because the staff made us feel unwelcome and why wait in a line outside to get I. Another one to go upstairs? so we left and went to Gala where the owner was a lot nicer and he got me and my other friends a section and we salvaged the night on a good note. I didn’t try the food so I rated it 5 stars and the atmosphere was nice but they played music that we can’t really dance to it’s all old disco mashups which makes sense because it’s a disco themed bar but it was very underwhelming. Nonetheless THERE ARE PLENTY OF BETTER BARS on short north and Seesaw was better than Goodnight John boy, music wise and atmosphere. They just need to work on treating paying customers better and not...
Read moreWent to this establishment spur of the moment Saturday night with a group of girlfriends who were all celebrating one of my close friends with her bachelorette party. I have been here previously when it was still operating as SeeSaw. Luckily for us there were some VIP spots open- so I went up to one of the staff to ask them how to reserve one. I just want to say as someone who has been to many clubs/bars in my younger years and interacted with staff and management in the VIP sections, this BY FAR was the best interaction I have had. The man who helped us all night was Max, he was so sweet and helpful and put up with all of our antics and did everything he could to make our night amazing. And while all of the servers were great, Jac went way out of her way to make sure not only the bride had an unforgettable night, but that all of us had a great time. There was also a bouncer in the section behind the DJ where we were at (his name escapes me at this point in time) but he was also wonderful in keeping people out and helping us at the end of the night. Will definitely be back and will...
