We ate in at the Hilliard Fishinger Rd. location on a Monday evening. In comparison with a couple other Habaneros we have dined in, the atmosphere and decor left a lot to be desired. Very basic, non-descript, and sterile, with too much sunlight streaming in from the baseboard to ceiling windows, that have no blinds or curtains for escape. The patio's no option since it's also facing west so brutal in the evening.
We scored better with the food. Husband ordered a version of chori chicken, which is grilled chicken breasts (2) topped with chorizo. This came with cilantro lime rice and whole pinto beans. He declared all to be delicious. I had the veggie tostadas, which had a nice mix of black beans (not too many), corn, grilled onions, a few green peppers, lettuce and queso fresco. I was a little disappointed since when you order the meat tostadas you get avocado and I assumed that would be included on the veggie tostadas, but no such luck. They would have been much better with that addition. No salsa, pico de Gallo or even taco sauce is provided, though there is Cholula and Tobasco-esque hot sauce on the tables. The tostada shells were very crispy though, so extra points for that.
Their menu is quite extensive, but their website says they're in the middle of a menu update, so I don't know what that will mean once that's accomplished.
It's a decent Mexican restaurant if you're not too picky about atmosphere, don't mind not getting the free chips and salsa, and don't mind ordering at the counter (though they'll bring the...
Read moreAltho the food good, my last visit was disappointing... the cashier & cook should always be separate positions for important reasons and the cashier should know enough English to have decent communication-- I say this to say the young man was all over the place touching everything w/ the same gloves he's touching customers food w/.
I seen him touching the register, his sweaty hat, he wiped them off on his jeans & pushed the cart that been all around the restaurant they use to load beer & bus tables etc, then go to grab tortillas out the press then dipped those same gloves into the tomatoes-- I asked him several times to change his gloves & he nodded as if he understood but still continued to fix my meal. I asked the manager to have him to please change his gloves, he did then immediately pulls his pants up & wipes his hands off on his jeans w/ the glove on-- he was just unaware & inconsiderate. I just asked for a refund & left.
I wouldn't be surprised if anyone gotten a stomach flu at some point. I give them 3 stars bc cleanliness is extremely important to me and management should be just as aware as I am to correct their employees & care enough to make...
Read moreMe and my best friend really enjoyed coming here for their nachos, tacos are also pretty good. My only thing is the first few times we came it was really good and fresh Mind you we came on a busy days for dinner. But the last 2-3 times that we came for lunch instead of dinner, meat tasted like it was kept in a refrigerator? Same with the churros? I’m not sure how to explain the flavor but it tasted like bland and exactly how when something is freezer burned. Plus I paid a little extra for meat and I couldn’t even eat it or get a refund. I also brought my sister once and she had gotten a bowl, the bowl didn’t have much flavor it was not bad but not the best either. I’m starting to think that on slower days things must not be as fresh where as on busy days. I tried to tell a manger about the meat but it seemed like not much could be done. I keep trying to give this place another chance but I don’t think me and her will be returning. My best advice is to go on a...
