If you want to try this restaurant, have plenty of time to spare! Otherwise, you might regret that you went.
I visited Hyde Park in downtown Columbus on a Saturday with a party of 10 to celebrate my birthday. I was really excited to visit as the restaurant was a suggestion of a friend. The atmosphere was nice, the drinks were satisfying, the food got mixed reviews, and the service was slow!!! When my party was seated at 6:30 p.m. three different servers introduced themselves to us and said they would be waiting on our table. To me, this set an expectation that all three servers would work together to provide our table highly attentive service, which didn’t end up being the case. While we were quickly given a drink menu, we had to ask for our drink orders to be taken. There was also a delay in having our entrée orders placed. Due to this, I ended up having my appetizer at the same time as my entrée, which isn’t typical in my experience going to other high-end restaurants. After waiting on our entrées for several minutes, we followed up with Craig, who I assume is one of the managers, as we wanted to know when our entrées would be received. The food came out soon after Craig went into the kitchen. To the restaurant’s credit, the food was hot when it was brought out, I just couldn’t understand why it took someone going into the kitchen for us to finally get our food or why we hadn’t at least gotten word if there was a delay in the kitchen. A selling point of choosing to go to Hyde Park was the flaming butter cake. I love dessert and this one looked appealing. However, choosing to have dessert (for my birthday) proved to be a sacrifice. I had adjusted the time of my dinner reservation to be a little earlier, having no doubts that with the high-quality service I expected to receive, there would be no issue in having a full course meal for a party of my size in 2 and a half hours, then leaving to attend a concert 2 miles away that I was really looking forward to! To make a long story a little shorter, receiving our checks also took more time than expected. We finally left the restaurant around 9:30 p.m. (3 hours after arriving). By the time my friends and I got to the festival where the concert was taking place, the artist was performing their last song! This was a huge disappointment, especially on my birthday weekend, as much of the time we spent waiting for service at the restaurant, could have been spent at the concert! Sadly, I don’t anticipate visiting Hyde Park again in the near future or recommending it to others. Time is a commodity that isn’t easily replaced. The slow service at the restaurant affected my ability to have an experience that I have been waiting on for many years. If the expectation of time for a party of 10 is 3 hours, I really wish that would have been expressed as I was booking the reservation or as we were seated! I hope the restaurant will truly take this review into consideration for the sake of future customers.
P.S. The server who primarily assisted us, named Scott worked to remedy a few issues for us throughout dinner and was friendly, so he should get credit for that. He likely just needed more support to wait a group of that size.
*Update: The manager, named Craig, reached out to me to apologize for the inconvenience and extended me a token of appreciation as a customer as the experience wasn’t what...

Hyde Park Columbus 2023
Promptly greeted at the door with hospitality which is appreciated. The weather was perfect and we were offered indoor or outdoor seating. The outdoor seating area is pleasant with good energy. Inside would provide a more intimate setting but outside hit the spot and the seats were extremely comfortable along the restaurant.
The house bread was a treat with a variety for complexity. Pretzel bread, crackers and they ciabatta bread was delicious!
The wedge salad was light, refreshing without one flavor on the dish overpowering the other. I would recommend extra toppings but would order again.
Main - The Ryan Day Steak 26oz 36-Day Dry Aged Bone-In Ribeye… Rich beef flavor, cooked perfect at medium rare temp and seasoned just enough for everyone to enjoy. The 36-Day Dry Age is where I draw the line and I was delighted to see this cut on the menu. I tasted the richness of the dry aging and the quality of the meat was a of great prime beef quality. The dry-aging allowed for a delicious char which added a beautiful complexity of flavors. The bone was present but was on the smaller side which leaves more room for the good stuff…steak! Some pieces I tossed a bit of salt on and others I didn’t. I enjoyed having the option. Would order again
Sides
Roasted Brussels Sprouts, bacon marmalade. These Brussel Sprouts hit home. The seamless taste of honey followed by a light char and earthiness of the sprouts were impressive. I feel like I can say, I enjoy Brussel Sprouts. Lol
Roasted Creamed Corn Pancetta I would like to start off by saying…cooked to perfection. The temperature of the dish was appropriate and paired well. I like my corn side dish a bit sweeter but this version paired best with steak and the brussel sprouts. It was a nice touch of smokiness and herbs.
Potatoes Gruyère Gratin Cooked to perfection and seasoned well. The only way this dish could be better is to have two layers of baked cheese to dive through and enjoy. That would definitely be ground breaking! Would definitely order again.
Cheesecake
Vanilla NY Style Cheesecake…enjoyed! This cheesecake was on the smaller side and didn’t have a sauce to compliment the cheesecake but it was enjoyable. I would recommend asking for a sauce, raspberry or blueberry sauce to enjoy with the cheesecake.
Flowerless Chocolate Cake Extremely rich dense chocolate flavor. Best paired with vanilla ice cream which is an option to order. Could be a desert I return to order with ice cream in the future.
We enjoyed amazing service from Adrianne and other members of their staff! The management staff, especially Bob was extremely hospitable and made sure we were enjoying our time experience and gave me a tour of the newly renovated addition to the restaurant with the area for the live band. Looking forward to returning on the weekend to experience the live...
Read moretried to email them privately instead of putting them on blast on here, but they couldn’t even be bothered to respond to my email so here we go. My husband and i visited hyde park last week for our anniversary. Let me start off by saying the food and service was phenomenal as always. We choose to go here every year for our anniversary dinner, and up until this year it has not let us down. We go a few times a year for dinner, but we go all out for our anniversary dinner once a year. Bottle of wine or 2, extra sides, dessert, everything. My husband receives his work bonus every year on a prepaid Visa gift card. We use part of that each year for our dinner here. Every year prior to this we had no problem paying with this Visa. This year however, as we went to pay, the waiter told us he could not accept the card because it did not have a chip. Naturally we asked why, as this has never been a problem before. He said because the restaurant has been “burned too many times” from cards without chips. I’m not sure if this is a restaurant policy or if the individual waiter was just hesitant to use a chip-less card. If it is restaurant policy, you should really make it clear on your website that that’s the case and inform people before they order $250 worth of food and drinks. If it’s just the individual being hesitant, then a conversation really should be had with that person. The gift card has my husbands name on it, as well as a phone number that could have been called to verify the balance available on it. I understand the hesitancy from the waiter if something has happened to him before, but there were multiple measures he could’ve taken to verify the legitimacy of it. Luckily we had another card with us to pay, but I truly wonder what would have happened if we hadn’t. Like I said, we come here every year for our anniversary dinner as well as just regular dinners throughout the year, and i’m not sure we will be coming back after this. We definitely will not come back for our anniversary next year as we like to use that gift card towards dinner, so we will find another restaurant that accepts it. After this experience though and not even bothering to reach out after I emailed, I’m hesitant to even come back at all. I just wish we had the information before we sat down to eat, instead of being told when we were trying to pay. so beware if you go here make sure you either have a card with a chip or...
