Joy's Village is a very good Chinese restaurant that is well-hidden from N. High St. within the Ohio Stater Mall [which is the basement below the Ohio Stater Inn].
The food at Joy's Village is very good; their selection is quite large.
I recently ordered Indonesian Fried Rice. This item had been far more "filling" than I had expected because of the ample quantities of the four below ingredients [in addition to the a large amount of fried rice plus a few vegetables].
โ Many small flat pieces of chicken
โ One breaded chicken patty cut into strips
โ More than five [shelled] shrimp
โ One fried egg
I had ordered Indonesian Fried Rice because that item had been marked as "spicy" [which had not actually been the case].
The chips and the fortune cookies [two fortune cookies in one package which I have never seen before] had been slightly "stale"; otherwise the food had been delicious; the serving had been quite ample.
People who use wheelchairs or otherwise cannot use stairs to visit Joy's Village may enter the lobby of the Ohio Stater Inn [across the parking lot which is available via a sloped-up driveway from the N. High St. sidewalk] and then use an elevator to reach the Ohio...
ย ย ย Read moreJoy's Village is in a great location close to campus, has great food, and the staff are very nice! Joy's is generally pretty well lit at night but it can kid of be a bit of a hassle to find. The accessibility to the building is not the greatest, as you need to go down stairs in order to get into the building, thus not accessible for wheelchairs and the stairs are coming apart a bit can can be a tripping hazard. Regarding the inside of the building, it can be a little hard to find, which could be complicated from an accessibility standpoint since there are no major signs indicating where the restaurant is. The doors are not automatic which could be an issue for some regarding to weight of the doors. Since there is also some construction material inside, this could pose to be a hazard as well. The environment of the restaurant is not too loud or bright but it can sometimes be a little cramped and not provide enough room to pass...
ย ย ย Read moreJoy's Village is among the best Chinese food in the campus area and has a good, relaxing interior in the Ohio Stater Shopping Center. I ordered Szechuan chicken and it was pretty tasty, but nothing extraordinary comparatively. I don't currently have much experience with the less-Americanized dishes that are on the extensive menu, but I am to assume from referrals that it's decent. Our service was adequate, with no indication that the server wanted to provide guest service, rather she just served us and nothing more. A bowl of sticky rice is serve before you get your food, which is nice. One thing that I did notice and was kind of put off by, was that I got different chopsticks than the other patrons in the restaurant, ones of lower quality. I'm not sure the reasoning behind that, but I'll just assume positive intent. Overall, it's pretty good Chinese food with adequate service and questionable ethics at a...
