I ate a delicious "early supper" yesterday [11-3-2022] at Qdoba Mexican Eats, 1956 N. High St., in the University District" neighborhood of Columbus.
I had recently attended a lecture on The Ohio State University campus; my original plan had been to return directly home after the lecture had ended and to eat at home; however, the traffic on N. High St. had been "at a standstill" so I decided to eat "on campus" before leaving for home.
For the past several months, Qdoba Mexican Eats has been in the "43201" section of my list of restaurants at which to eat "on behalf of Google Maps."
I had decided to eat at Qdoba Mexican Eats yesterday because that restaurant had been nearly empty at that moment which had meant that I would be able to easily take some photographs for Google Maps without having to spend any effort making sure that no other customers would appear in those photographs.
My food choice for yesterday's supper at Qdoba Mexican Eats had been a "Bowl" with "Grilled Adobo Chicken and Ground Beef, Brown Rice, Black Beans, Three-Cheese Queso, and Cojita Cheese." My meal had been delicious; I am glad that I had eaten there.
Some may remember that 1956 N. High St. had been the former location of a La Bamba Mexican restaurant that had been there for many years. La Bamba had reportedly sold "Burritos as Big as Your Head" [which I do not believe had actually been true but that had been their familiar-to-many advertising slogan].
Many years earlier at 1956 N. High St. had been Discount Records that had been at that location during a portion of the 1970s, all of the 1980s, and a portion of the 1990s. I had bought many records, during that period of time, at Discount Records. That had been many years before the word "vinyl" had become the word of choice to name that product.
If you are in the "University District" neighborhood of Columbus and are looking for some delicious Mexican food, I strongly recommend Qdoba...
Read moreThe "crispy cheese" quesadilla was not at all crispy, just hot and soft. The "pulled pork" meat was decent, but bland.
I tried to ask, for several minutes, if the queso has tomatoes in it - between four staff members none of them could understand - none spoke English.
Eventually, they got a manager and he finally could answer me.
Once the question was answered, ordering was not to painful - but I did bring up Google Translator to explain that I wanted some of the toppings put b on AFTER it was cooked. That worked well.
But, the worst part of my experience was when they asked me what I wanted to drink - I asked for water, pointed to a cup, and she SEEMED to understand, yet somehow STILL charged me $2.95 for a bottled water (even though they just gave me a cup). That's bad enough, but WTAF why would bottled water be THREE DOLLARS?!?!!!
Even a dollar is too much to be paying for just water, but there? That's absolutely outrageous - to the point of being really f-ing offensive. Seriously, it's NOT OK.
Overall, my first experience at Qdoba was pretty...
Read moreJust picked up some food from the Ohio State Campus Qdoba location and the employee who made my food was one of the rudest people I have ever dealt with in a restaurant. One employee who was cleaning greeted me, asked me what I wanted, then continued to clean and him and the employee who eventually made my food continued their conversation for an absurd amount of time, neither of them moving to make my order or even acknowledge I was there. Finally, my look of confusion caught his attention and he rudely asked my order again, throwing everything together angrily, interrupting what I was asking for saying, "What else!" and missing things I was saying. He didn't even ask if it was to-go, threw it in a bag, told me the amount, I gave him my card and he swiped it, but threw it down on the counter and just walked away. I don't know what I did to deserve that, but that is probably the last time I go to that location. I'm trying not to exaggerate too much, but it was probably the most hostile restaurant experience...
