I had a bad experience from start to finish at the Old Mohawk.
To start, we waited a reasonable 5ish minutes to be sat. Not horrible, not ideal. Total non issue if this was a lone occurence. We get sat, order drinks, and put in an order for an appetizer. We sat on the patio and dealt with a horrible methane smell the entire time. Totally gross.
Before I go any further I should comment that the menu is a bit all over the place. Cajun pasta, cheeseburgers, crab tater tots, bratwurst. Not bad, just strange. On the other side the food is very affordable given the area.
So we’re sat for a while with our drinks and we didn’t see our server, Ali, again until we got our food. We never got our appetizer, so I asked her to take it off our bill. Not a huge issue. Mistakes happen.
Another issue was that she brought out my entree before my salad, so I had already forgotten about it and started to dig in to my main course. Then 5 minutes later she rolls out with my salad.
The food, was good. My bratwurst platter looked more like skirt steak which I thought was strange but it was good enough. A little tough, but good. My girlfriend’s fish and chips were also pretty good.
When we got our food I asked for a beer that I didn’t end up getting. We got done eating and asked for the bill, that bill came after 20ish minutes of waiting and asking another server to check on it.
Overall pretty bad experience. We were planning to order 3 drinks each, get an appetizer and hang out for a while, but our server totally dropped the ball. I just moved to GV and was really excited to try this place out, but was totally disappointed. I’m hoping this was just a bad day, but it was bad enough that I found it was worth sharing...
Read moreI ordered the Reuben sandwich and after eating it I became more hungry. A sandwich that is suppose to be stuffed with corn beef had 3 very thin slices of beef and a sprinkled amount of sauerkraut. I believe it had 1 piece of Swiss. I assume because I didn't see it. This was the waste Reuben I have ever had in all my 50years and this is my favorite sandwich. It was very thin, almost compare it to just a simple bologna sandwich. The bread had shifted off. Usually the melted cheese holds it together. It had no grath to it, as this sandwich should be meaty. I am really disappointed. I wasted my money and passed other locations that served the same sandwich. I had potatoes wedges with that sandwich and a pickle and I now lay here in bed listening to my stomach grumble. You should never serve a Rueban like that again, if so just call it a corn beef sandwich. I should have really inspected that sandwich before I left and asked where is the "beef". I have never left from eating a meal at a resturant hungry with 2 glasses of water. I have had salads before and felt content. A matter of fact where was anything....this sandwich was not made correctly at your location. I should have made it myself for the same cost and made it with the proper portions. I had plan to come back for the onion soup, but it the portions are going to leave me hunger. I'll take my chances some where else. Go down on the price if your going to cheat on the meat.
Before you ask if I am a large person, no I am a very slim female. I wasn't even hunger before I ate and realized I was not even full after eating a (beef) sandwich with about a handful of potatoe wedges. The wedges alone should have...
Read moreI visited The Old Mohawk very recently because I was in the neighborhood and I was looking for a restaurant that would appeal to everyone in my party. I looked through a few pages on Google's Places app and came to The Old Mohawk. I was very glad that the menu was listed because we probably wouldn't have stopped otherwise! From the menu, we could see there were reasonable prices and a lot of variety. Plus, there were several vegetarian options! I am not a vegetarian, but I ordered the vegetarian chili and a side salad. Both were excellent! My mom ordered a chicken quesadilla, which she loved. My younger sister (vegetarian) didn't like the spinach on her veggie wrap, but she still enjoyed the restaurant very much and wants to come back.
The service was great! We were afraid we wouldn't be able to get a table, but the host told us to have a seat at the bar and they would come get us when one was available; however, we decided to just have our dinner at the bar. I watched the workers behind the bar and they seemed to have a lot of fun working together, so that made me happy. The man who waited on the three of us was very friendly. When I was ordering my salad, I asked for the full size, but he recommended the side, which ended up being quite enough for me. I was glad that he offered this suggestion. Overall, this was an excellent restaurant. It was visually (and historically) interesting, had good prices and variety on the menu, and great staff and food. I will come back here the next...
