I placed an order for my son's birthday cake two weeks in advance. I spoke with the young lady at the counter and chose this specific size cake because she said it was the only one that they could make strawberry flavored. I was very specific that we wanted an all strawberry flavored cake with buttercream frosting. When we cut the cake at the party we saw what looked to be a vanilla cake. There are EXTREMELY small flakes of strawberry mixed in with the vanilla cake batter. It did not have the strawberry flavor at all. The flakes were so small you could not even taste them. I called the bakery and they told me that, yes, my order slip did say strawberry flavor and to bring in a slice of the cake (as evidence?) and they would "take care of me." When I got there the male owner was insisting that this is a strawberry cake and the best they could do, he even stated to make an actual strawberry cake would prevent it from baking correctly. I have a cake made for every birthday we celebrate among other special events, I usually use Heavenly Cakes, and have never had a problem or been told they will not bake if made to be strawberry flavored. I paid $75.00 for a strawberry cake with buttercream frosting and was given what is in the picture below. The owner stated he would only issue a $25.00 gift card to their facility, a facility I do not wish to return to after this experience. I tried Montgomery Bake house because of the good reviews. I will not be returning and will not recommend them to anyone I know. The cake was a disappointment, but the management and the manner in which he handled their mistake was even more of a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI ordered a cake for my wife's birthday about two weeks in advance. When speaking to the clerk, I was very specific about how I wanted it decorated, repeating myself at least twice. When I picked it up it wasn't what I ordered. The manager came to speak to me and told me they couldn't do what I wanted unless I ordered a custom cake. I said I thought I had ordered a custom cake and she said if it's like one in the case, it isn't custom. However it didn't look like any of the cakes in the case. When I questioned her about that, she couldn't explain it. The main difference was the request for a couple of roses on the cake. If they had just offered to put them on while I waited, I would have been a happy customer. Instead, they refused and now I'm writing this poor review. In summary, I felt they weren't listening to what I wanted when I ordered nor were they willing to at least provide some of what I wanted when I picked it up. Instead they just made excuses. I paid a premium price for a cake that didn't look any better than the cakes in Walmart. We've bought a number of cakes, pies, etc from them in the past but I will have to carefully consider any future purchases as I don't feel they provide a good customer experience.
UPDATE: When we cut the cake we found that we didn't get the white cake we ordered but a yellow cake instead. This is a complete and utter failure by MB in handling our order. Nothing was as we ordered it. They are never getting our money again. We'll shop elsewhere...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI really enjoy patronizing local businesses. There are so few bakeries anymore that I was excited when I found this one. My experience has been hit and miss. I have only had cookies here and cinnamon rolls. Their cinnamon rolls are outstanding. But I really haven't found a cookie that just really had that wow factor. I had a key lime mini pie and I didn't care for it (not enough crust and was overly sweet without enough key lime flavor). The frozen key lime slices from Marie Calendar's are better example IMO of how key lime pie should taste. The macarons were terrible. I bought 6 and 2 were so hard, they were not edible. A few had what looked like a jelly type substance in the middle. It should be a cream in the middle. I recently had macarons at Le Macaron in the Galleria and they are out of this world delicious. I encourage them to get macarons here to get an idea of how they should be made (I mean this with all sincerity and not in a mean way). You can learn from other chefs who have mastered a particular food. I have had the signature Tornado cookie and wasn't really impressed. I find most of the cookies too hard and dry for my liking. I prefer a soft, chewy cookie. I am leaving 3 stars, because I have not tried...
