Came here 2 nights in a row on a work visit to Conshohocken.
We were in Conshohocken for holiday get-togethers at my wife's place of work. We're from Houston, TX and were in town for 2 days. The first restaurant we tried for lunch (not this one), meh. Super overrated even though it had good reviews. Our hearts kind of sunk with the thought of the dining options in this little town. And then...
Pepperoncini? Unexpectedly amazing place for dinner. It has the old Italian feel with the wood back bar and furniture, white tablecloths in the dining room. Wait staff was clean, engaging, knowledgeable, and friendly. We were born and raised in East Texas and that's immediately evident in conversation outside our home area. They didn't so much as bat an eyelash. We felt very welcome and comfortable. No request was ignored or passed off to other service staff. Even the guy that was clearly the food runner/bus boy made eye contact, listened, and carried out our request immediately. That's some service for a small neighborhood spot like this.
It was clear they had a regular following that came almost every night, a good sign.
The food was authentic, well portioned (not too much or too little), and absolutely freakin' delicious. I was stuffed and just kept eating from compulsion by the flavors.
Service was smooth and flowed flawlessly. We never had to ask for anything basic like napkins or silverware or extra plates. Having spent 12 years in the industry in a past life, it is an absolute comfort when my attention isn't drawn to the flow of service and the activities of staff on the periphery. Thank you to the staff for your restful ambiance, even in a packed little restaurant.
My second visit, the next night, the owner (or the general manager) was there. I never asked, but the air of his presence made his position evident. He actively engaged with guests and was all over the place handling anything needed. Phone calls, food running, dealing with the drunk guy that stumbled into people. He set the example for his staff.
Y'all are an absolute gem in that little town. Thank you for the...
Read moreI have celiac diasease so I googled “best gluten-free places in Conshohocken” and Pepperoncini popped up with a guest review saying that they had the best gluten-free penne ever. I called in to confirm and went to have lunch there. I told the server I wanted the gluten-free penne pasta with vodka sauce. However, the kitchen made my order with rigatoni pasta that obviously had gluten because I got sick within 30 minutes of eating the meal. I double checked with the server and she assured me my plate was gluten-free. While eating it, it tasted like regular pasta but since I read that their gluten-free pasta was good I didn’t find it suspicious. I only ate 1/4 of the meal because I got so bloated shortly after I started eating. I got full very fast. Fast forward to 8 hours after lunch, and I’m still very bloated with painful cramps like I just overate very quickly 2 minutes ago. I called the restaurant to inquire if it was really gluten-free pasta that I was served and the server said the only gluten-free pasta they have is penne but I was served rigatoni. She decided to alert the manager but he dismissed what the server told me and said that their gluten-free pasta is rigatoni pasta instead and the server was incorrect so he doesn’t know why I am sick. I know why I got sick, the food I ate contained a lot of gluten. Rather than take ownership for the mistake the manager chose to cover it up. I certainly wouldn’t be...
Read moreSo we had to stop and do a return at a local store. We had a long ride home so we decided to stop and get a bite to eat . looked on Google as we were not familiar with the area. Found this place and read some reviews. I like food, actually I don't like it I love it, so when I read a 3 star review stating that the food was too salty I knew I had to try this place. Too many restaurants don't know how to cook and lean on the side of caution with incorporating flavors, that includes salt .too many places are just bland. That being said I was very happy with every course even the salad (Arugula) was well though out .Perfect summer salad. Sausage appetizer was great not too much fennel, and would have been even better if the Jersey tomatoes we're a month later in the season . Next the entree a veal dish, first the side .Potatoes (mashed with skin incorporated into it) simple right, but they were either baked or pan fried so there was a light crust on the bottom. Great idea. Now on to the actual entree .veal prosciutto smoked mozzarella mushrooms and a light marsala sauce .oh and sage. Well thought out dish great flavor profile .all complimenting each other .Lastly during this horrible pandemic I called, asked for a table outside, took us in 15 minutes, great service, well made drinks and the manager was very accommodating. If you are in the area worth a try. Totally...
