While we as a nation embark on making America Great Again. This review comes as a pure delight to write because of the fullfillment in my stomach and pure joy in my heart when i left. I travel regularly coast to coast visiting every major national city for various reasons and i am always seeking under dog, mom and pop eateries i can share with my State and Federal Networks. Mr. Shuck's Seafood slogan "Hooked at First Bite" was everything and more living up to such a bold claim. I visited Mr. Shuck's place on 05-09-2025 around 18:15 on a recommendation from my network who said, "They have a butter garlic sauce that will reach your soul." And so, my venture began!!
Arriving around 18:15 is where i met Kiara. What an AMAZING gal and star that shines exceedingly bright. Little did i know that she was not only gonna be my bar tender, but she also was my server, and therapist!! ☺️ I will admit she was quite cheeky once she found out i was a first timer and had delivered a single shrimp covered in yalls signature butter garlic sauce. (THAT WAS CHEATING!!) 😏 But even still, she being quite the eye candy to look at!! 😇 Kiara was a worker and a half pumping out the drinks and orders while still able to engauge in great conversation. Its no mistake that the bar is HER area and she manages it very well. Not to say there wont be future visits, im just a little saddened to not be able to try one of her drinks for the upcoming menu. None the less, the drinks i did order from her where nothing short of top notch being im less than a casual drinker. Yall will have some big shoes to fill if you ever lost her. I just might have to come back just for another therapy session. Ha!
Then there was Charles before i even knew who Charles was. A part of my job skill set is to keenly listen and watch for uncommon details. While having various conversations with Kiara, i was watching and listening to this man go from table to table checking on the patrons. His whole demeanor and interaction with guests screamed ownership because of how he cared for the patrons like a new born baby. HIS BABY!! Tyically i only see this in a humble owner, respector of Gods Blessings who otherwise wouldnt have had such care for each and every table to ensure their visit was nothing short of the best. And my over all personal encounter was nothing short.
And lastly was the food!! O...M...G was it off the chain GOOD!! I ordered raw oysters, The Big Snow, and rounded things off with yalls Fried Bannana cheesecake. I swear to heaven them raw oysters were the largest ive ever had and were literally 4 inches in diameter and DELICIOUS!! Then came "The Big Snow." Never have i had a Southern Boil with all the trimmings, but yall DELIVERED!! The HUGE crab legs cooked perfectly where it wasnt tiring to get to the meat. Adding the corn, potatoes, sausage, and shrimp all drowned in your signature garlic butter sauce. It was literally an outter body experience!! The fried banana cheesecake was the only slight disappointment and wasnt what i expected. Still very tasty though. I wasnt expecting the banana and cheesecake to be a puree and served as a filling for some sort of fried tortilla wrap.
Thank you again to everyone including Kiara and Charles for making my first time experience one to remember!! Yall are being logged into my network as a place to go!!...
Read moreArrived at Shucks for my first time (dining in) and was made aware there would be a 40minute wait. Received a text at 7:07 stating table was ready. Came in the restaurant and the young lady working during that time on 7/6/24 made me aware that she was waiting the table to get up. So a little confused I asked “Why would I get a text if the table is still seated? (No response) She offered to sit us outside however we decided to wait. So we stood outside for 20 mins. Noticing another group of women being seated (party of 3) while we still waited. So I go inside to make sure she didn’t forget about us. However I didn’t want to overcrowd the entry/exit area. When I came back in she says nothing. Doesn’t acknowledge us standing there, nor apologizes for the confusion and wait. My mother then ask, “Was it a reason why we received a text and we are still waiting?” NO REPLY! Another waitress walked up and they discussed the matter amongst themselves. My mother in turn heard the waitress state, “maybe the text was sent in error.” At 7:31 the check was given to the gentleman sitting at the table we where assigned. At that time I noticed the three women that were seated while we waited. Seated three booths behind the table we had to wait for. At this point I am furious. But wanted my mother traveling from Philadelphia, PA to experience the food here. We finally sit down at 7:37. Wait another 10 minutes for someone to greet us at the table or even acknowledge us. At this point it was written all over my face. Frustrated because I work in service. I understand mistakes happen; but to be ignored and handled with not a care in the world was bothersome. This is why black businesses continue to miss in our own communities. I was never rude or combative. I gave the benefit of the doubt to the young lady, and situation. I felt mishandled, disregard, and disrespected. To my relief LOGAN turned my frustration right around. She was warm, listened, understood, apologized, and assured us that she would make it her priority to change our perception of what we experienced thus far. THANK YOU LOGAN FOR YOUR REMARKABLE SERVICE! Mr. Shuck please use this as a training opportunity for your staff to simply communicate and own any mistake or mishap. Despite my experience I will give a 5 STAR review simply because of LOGAN! THANK YOU AGAIN LOGAN! Keep serving...
Read moreDuring our vacation stay on Saint Simon Island we opted to try seafood cuisine off the island for a seafood restaurant in Brunswick, Georgia only about a 10 minute drive. After having read the fairly high reviews we chose Mr. Shuck’s seafood restaurant. We arrived around 5 PM with just a few other diners being served. We ordered Snapper and Whiting dinner plates with salads and fries as sides. Our beverages were a domestic beer and one of their house old fashioned. Our meals and beverages came after a normal wait time of about 25 minutes. Our drinks were served cold and were up to par in quality and taste. When were served our meals though we discovered that the reviews at least in our opinion had been a bit overly rated. Why? Well for several reasons. First the fish tasted average and were cooked as they should be but the problem we felt was that the fish dinners were too greasy.and lacked good flavor due to a bland batter. Likewise so were the fries and hush puppies both were greasy. When frying fish, fries, hush puppies, etc. timing is of essence, meaning it needs to stay only the exact amount of minutes depending on the thickness of the fish, or the foods being fried, and then should be immediately removed. Also the cooking oils need to be changed regularly for optimal flavor. As for the hush puppies served, they were bland and a change of recipe was needed. Our hostess was top notch though, she was very knowledgeable about foods and beverages having worked in the restaurant business for many years and we shared with her our thoughts about the meals we had been served. She acknowledged about the greasy dinners lacking taste due to the batter used and improper cooking time and possibly not changing the cooking oil frequently. She mentioned that she would signal this to the owner since this was a 5 star restaurant. We might return when we are back in the area just to see if there is an improvement from our current dining experience. Prices were high for what we ordered and we both agreed that we had dined at other seafood restaurants which were lower in price and had better tasting foods. I would suggest that you investigate other area seafood restaurants prior to eating here, and should you decide to eat here hopefully they will have improved how they...
