Ambiance: 5/5 Dim lighting in the dining area. Moderate noise level, not too noisy. The tables are neatly arranged with the silverware wrapped inside of the dinner cloths. The bar area is huge with plenty of lighting and tv monitors.
Food: 4/5 The food is very good and tasty here. You'll definitely enjoy it, however it's a bit pricey, so be prepared to spend at least $200 bucks for two.
Appetizers: Crab and Spinach Dip 5/5- Hands Down the best crab and spinach dip I've ever tasted in my life. It was very flavorful and paired nicely with the Parmesan crostini toast. Shrimp and Crawfish Fondeaux 3/5 Flavorless and too soupy for my liking. I've had much better tasting Fondeaux and this is not it.
Fried Seafood Platter: 4/5 This meal consists of shrimp, catfish, oysters, stuffed crab, stuffed shrimp, and one side. Everything was fried beautifully and to perfection except for the oysters. They were soggy. I absolutely despise soggy oysters. If I wanted raw oysters I would have asked for raw oysters. I like my oysters fried crispy and fully cooked. Aside from the soggy oysters, it was a great tasting meal. The fried fish and shrimp were flavorful and not too salty. However, the stuffed crab and stuffed shrimp were a bit too salty for my liking but very flavorful. I enjoyed this meal with a side salad consisting of only lettuce and sliced cucumbers, which were very fresh and bright green. I appreciate the fact they did not serve me old withered lettuce and stale-dried-out cucumbers.
Atlantic Salmon Alexander: 4/5 This dish was experienced by one of my older sons who said that it was very delicious and flavorful. However, the dirty rice was too hard as if it was undercooked. He had no complaints about the salmon, the crawfish, shrimp, or the scallops. It was his first time trying scallops and he was impressed with the texture. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal and the sauce that was drizzled on top of the salmon was rich and flavorful. He said that it would have been a perfect 5 out of 5, if the rice would have been properly cooked.
Pasta Mardi Gras: 5/5 This dish was devoured by my youngest son, the Navy man! He had no complaints whatsoever about this meal and didn't leave one speck of food behind. Full of flavor and the pasta was the perfect consistency of readiness, not too hard and not mushy, but perfectly cooked.
Rainbow Trout & Shrimp: 5/5 This dish was enjoyable to my husband who constantly raved about the flavor and texture of the fish and shrimp. He said that the fish was not overcooked or undercooked and felt as if it melted in his mouth with each bite. Although he would have preferred whipped mashed potatoes with this meal, he thoroughly enjoyed the truffle potatoes that's accompanied by the fish.
Drink: Patron Perfect Margarita- 3/5 It tastes good but I could not taste the alcohol. It did nothing for me.
I had a very lovely time with my family at this establishment. It was my son's choice to visit Pappadeaux's before returning back to the Navy base in San Diego where he's currently stationed and of course my family and I are always ready to accommodate him. The service was just okay, nothing spectacular. Our server was a young gentleman named Gabriel. He was not very attentive during our visit but he was polite and respectful. The place was pretty busy and it's a large restaurant so I can understand why he was not attentive. He probably had plenty of other tables to wait. Parking is plentiful so no problem there. Although they're expensive, you'll get your money's worth at least. So, with that being said, I don't mind paying their prices because it's absolutely worth it. The food is delicious and I would definitely visit them again as I've always done in the past. So, the overall experience was a good one. 4 out of 5 stars. It's a great establishment. Highly...
Read moreThis is an update to my review. I added 2 stars for service because management contacted me regarding my previous rating. I do appreciate that management took the time and effort to resolve the matter because you don’t see that happening much these days.
We have been coming to this location since mid 90s and never had an issue until tonight. The food is always excellent and service is generally great. I don’t normally go out of my way to leave negative feedback but the level of service we received today was so awful that I just cannot let it go. Our server had the most unprofessional, nasty attitude I’ve ever experienced anywhere. From the beginning she was dry and rude, did not introduce herself and literally shoved the menus onto the table knocking things over. We tried breaking the ice by asking her name and she gave some phony excuse that she’d told us but we didn’t hear. We thought that would help but no, she continued to have a very unpleasant, sour demeanor, rarely checking on us through while we had dinner. But the last straw was when we asked for to go boxes. She brought the boxes to the table but instead of handing them to us or placing them down, she actually turned her back toward us, extended her arm over the table waving the boxes around in mid air for us to reach up and fetch them from her hand while she had her head turned the other way talking to the guests seated at the table across the aisle. She then tosses the check on the table and walks off. She came back a few minutes later to clear the table and kept checking to see if we placed our card in the holder but we had not because we’d planned to order some dessert to go. She never asked if we wanted anything else, did not even ask if we wanted dessert, just kept looking for us to put the card out. At this point we were so dissatisfied with her service that we called the manager Jay over to inform him of such. He was very apologetic and asked another server to take over. The next server Nae was so much more pleasant and professional. To the young lady who was our initial server, my daughter worked the restaurant industry for many years so we know the job is not easy, but there was absolutely no excuse for your...
Read moreI’ve been a loyal Pappadeaux customer for years, consistently giving 5-star reviews for their unique and delicious menu. Unfortunately, my recent experience has dropped my rating to 1 star due to relentless menu changes that feel like a slap in the face to longtime fans. These aren’t changes driven by lack of sales—they’re baffling decisions that strip away what made Pappadeaux special.
I was already disappointed when they removed the crabcakes, replacing them with “crab fingers” that just didn’t compare. I let it slide, hoping it was a one-off. But now, they’ve gone too far by axing the creme brulee and the iconic fried alligator, swapping the latter for the “HoT hOnEy Gator Bites.” Let’s be real: these bites are sloppy, soggy, and overly spicy, with a completely different sauce and breading that’s nothing like the original. Calling it “still alligator” is a weak attempt to upsell a bad decision—it’s not the same, and it’s not the upscale experience Pappadeaux is known for. Even the name “HoT hOnEy Gator Bites” feels cheap and out of place for a restaurant of this caliber.
I had planned to celebrate my birthday dinner here, as I have in years past, but learning about these changes killed that plan. I won’t be returning until the original fried alligator and creme brulee are back on the menu. Without these standout dishes, Pappadeaux isn’t offering anything unique enough to choose over other restaurants. It’s frustrating to see a place I loved take such a wrong turn, and I’m worried they’re heading down the same path as Red Lobster. Even AI recaps on Google reflect this letdown, mirroring my experience.
I hope this feedback climbs the corporate ladder because these changes are alienating loyal customers. I’d like to speak with a district or regional manager to discuss this directly—please provide contact information to make that happen. Until the menu returns to its former glory, Pappadeaux has lost...
