Stopped in after a show nearby. After the rave reviews I had to see what all the fuss was about. It was not bust when we arrived at 7:45 with only 2 tables but by the time we left around 9 it was almost full. We had the eggplant lasagna appetizer. It came out sizzling hot. This is how my Nonna made eggplant, sliced extra thin, no breading (only flour) and parmigiano cheese no mozzarella to speak of. It was excellent. We also tried the Milanese Panini with a side salad. It was very good and the simple side salad and the dressing was exactly how my Nonno prepared it. It brought back memories. Last was the Parmigiano Pizza. It looked good and similar to Pizza in Naples fresh out of the oven but here is where they fell a little short. The pizza said it had fresh basil but there was 1 little piece for a whole 10" pie. Perhaps they ran out. Also there was something missing flavor wise. The sauce? The basil? The spices? We took half the panini and pizza home for leftovers. They reheated well in the airfryer. We dressed the pizza up with crushed red pepper, basil, and parm and it was much better. Hopefully it was just an "off" night. But overall it was good not great, which is why I couldn't...
Read moreFINALLY we found the best pizza in Coral Gables - i went with my 2 sons today and we had the large Queen Margherita - perfect ratio of not too much cheese and lots of sauce, and the sauce itself was tasty. the crust was excellent too, perfect to dip in balsamic vinegar from the bottle that is on the table. Prices super-reasonable, we now have our pizza place and can’t wait to go back. also had a pear-arugula salad which came in very nice large portion, and look forward to trying some of the italian entreés next time, like the eggplant parmigiana appetizer. my son said it was his favorite ever caesar salad. they had a very reasonably priced wine list by the glass ($7-8 per glass), and the chianti i ordered was excellent. service was super-attentive - the pizzaiola (head pizza chef) walked over on our way out to ask how everything was - very young guy, as best i can tell he’s from Italy and seems to take great pride in the authenticity of all the Italian dishes here. highly recommend.
i am now editing this review to let you know we have been back 3 times since i wrote the above paragraph and my wife now loves...
Read moreI happened to find Piccola pizza just strolling through the streets of Coral Gables on a Sunday afternoon. It had a very welcoming atmosphere with Italian decor and modern seating. The staff was inviting and helpful with recommendations.
I ended up getting an eggplant parm and the Tartufata pizza topped with truffle and mushrooms. I am a little suspicious of the eggplant not being fresh because it came out two minutes after we ordered it. Nevertheless, the taste of both items was fantastic. The pizza was clearly baked from scratch and tasted very fresh. It was thin yet very filling.
The restaurant was clean and I like the fact they put glass in front of the cooking station so you can see them prepare your pizza.
If I am ever in the area, I would definitely go here for...
