I’ve been eating so much this week yall! ##coralspringsflorida

t’s Thursday. All day. With that in mind, I decided to treat myself to real coffee on my commute into work. Tired of the McCrap available at every drive-through, I found myself making an excited U-turn to visit the Little Coffee Shoppe of Coral Springs. Finally, I said to myself, real coffee. I was not disappointed. I’m reminded of that Eddie Murphy bit. The one about the person stranded on a desert island finally being given a saltine cracker and swearing that it was a Ritz. If you eat saltines day in and day out, trying to fool yourself into believing they’re Ritz crackers, when you finally land the genuine article, it’s mind blowing. That’s what’s happening to me in the car as I hurriedly dictate this review. The flavor of actual ground coffee with hints of woody fruit and caramel begins to course through my veins. I knew the coffee was going to taste delicious before I put the straw in my mouth. Allow me to explain: the barista handed me a latte that was warm on the bottom with fresh hot espresso. Floating a top that was a Galapagos sea of ice cubes and cream: cold, sweet, and inviting. Before the straw went in, I knew I was in for something good. This place is quintessential small business. The owner built everything here from scratch. I love that about Broward county, and that’s my why my reviews focus primarily on homegrown businesses in South Florida. Thank you for the delicious coffee and the wonderful experience. I highly recommend the Little Coffee Shoppe of Coral Springs.

This is my second time here. I met a friend for coffee and breakfast here. She lives in Parkland, I live in Hollywood. But I will say it was totally worth the drive to check out this cute little coffee shop. They should change their name to "The Cute Little Coffee Shoppe". Hehe. Very charming decor. Cool details. Little nooks with hidden sitting areas. Even the bathroom was cool. I ordered a latte and wanted something a little healthier for breaktast so they were able to make scrambled egg whites with sliced avocados for me. The pricing wasn't bad at all either. My friend swears by the lemon ricotta pancakes which were quite fluffy and tasty. I wish this spot was closer to me but it will be a special treat when I'm back in the area. The one thing I did notice was they had a sign by the register where you order your coffee/food that said "NO WI-Fl. Sorry for the inconvenience." I totally brought my laptop to squeeze in some work. But saw the sign and that was not happening. I mean, I totally get it because they don't want people to just linger and take up the tables so it's not a terrible idea. Oh well, good business move. Ha. Had a hot matcha latte during my second visit and it tasted like a powdered latte as it was so sweet. Meh.

This review is long overdue as I’ve been meaning to post it for awhile (but of course, time gets the best of us and “later” becomes too long past due). I drive from West Palm to Coral Springs somewhat frequently, but the Little Coffee Shop has always been worth the 45 minute drive! The atmosphere, the familiar faces of the people who work there and greet us as we walk in, the good food, the coffee, and the hospitality of this hole in the wall gem has always made it a place to enjoy on the weekends and bring friends for their first time.

That said...my most recent experience was far from desirable. I’m not the type to normally write negative reviews, I’ve worked in customer service and I often give restaurants the benefit of the doubt but I was really disappointed at the fact that the poor service came from THE OWNER and not an employee.

I love their French grilled sandwich, however, for religious reasons, I have to substitute the bacon because I can’t have pork. This has ALWAYS been accommodated by various employees in the past (in fact, I believe it was an employee that suggested it my first time), but today the owner refused to do so. Citing that it’s altering the menu and this is a “coffee shop, not a restaurant” and on days like this “they are too busy to change sandwiches and that’s why employees have been fired.” He then preceded to question if it was “the short girl” and said “it most likely was and that’s why she is not here anymore”. Again, this has been accommodated by the various employees who are always here working.

I ended up getting a different sandwich (which wasn’t bad, not as amazing as the French grilled sandwich) but I am very reluctant to return. The owner, acknowledging we are regulars by seeing our familiar faces, did not even take the initiative to come speak to us once it slowed down. Today’s service contradicted the warm and friendly atmosphere that originally made the little coffee shop appealing.

All in all, If you’re looking for good food, definitely try them out! The Cookies and cream frappe is amazing! Buuuut....If you’re looking for a nice place to hang out—pray that the owner...
