Update: A gift card was mailed to me quite promptly and I had a much better experience with ordering and picking up since the below interaction. Thank you for making things right! This review is for weekend take out. I normally go here on weekdays and dine in and the service is fantastic and I love the food. I've brought multiple friends with me because we love the soup and sandwiches. But yesterday I called for a to-go order of soup since I wasn't feeling well and that sounded delicious and if that interaction had been my only interaction with this place, I would not go back. When I called and asked if I could place an order for take out, I was given a lot of attitude (at first I thought maybe it was a joke, but they got worse as it went on), then I was berated about which location I was ordering my pick up for. After I insisted I did in fact want the Coralville location and not the Iowa City location, they asked what I wanted and I said their potato bacon soup, to which I was given even more attitude, before being told it would be ready in 3 minutes. When I got there to pick it up, the bartender made eye contact, but never said anything to me about seat yourself or ask if I had a to go order, so I stood there awkwardly for about 3 minutes while he talked with people sitting at the bar infront of me, while all the people sitting at the bar took turns looking at me. He did finally look at me long enough for me to say I had a to go order for soup and I was able to get that and pay for it. It was a very uncomfortable interaction from the phone call to the pick up and I will be avoiding anything from here on weekends going forward. If you are going to go here, I highly suggest only going to this location during...
Read moreNot reviewing the drinks, as we did not have any. However, id recommend going somewhere else. My friend and I each ordered a baked potato and a side salad. Firstly, don't order the side salad. It costs $5 and is nothing more than 4 pieces of lettuce and a spoonful of other things to add color. Literally 2 bites and it was gone. Also, not sure where they learned what order courses come out in, but we were never asked if we wanted our salads out first or anything, and I guess I wrongly assumed they would indeed come out first, as is the case in 99% of other restaurants, but no, they actually came with our potatoes, which took about 20 minutes even though we were one of 2 tables in the restaurant. When they came out they were cold and hard and none of the toppings were hot enough to melt. By this point we already were pretty disappointed with the place, but we had a gift card so at least we were using it. Then the check comes and a SVC charge is added to the bill, although no mention of it was made anywhere prior to receiving the check, unless it was in really fine print on the menu, idk. Either way, that's pretty freakin shady. And the amount of it for being a credit card fee is ridiculous. For working in the field, I know a credit card swipe doesn't cost as much as they charge. They do have an atm in the place, but it will also charge you, so better have cash on hand (which obviously everyone does in this day and age 🙄). Anyway stay away from this joke if you're looking for somewhere to dine. And even moreso, stay away from this place if you want a good job. I'd imagine it's not easy explaining to every table why there is a SVC charge on their bill and id imagine it comes out of some people's...
Read moreKind of disappointed with our visit... we love the Iowa City location and we wanted to come here because we live in North Liberty and didn’t want to go all the way downtown during the game but didn’t leave impressed. First off this is my first review I’ve ever written, I’m a bartender, have been for 4 years, so has my boyfriend, we get it and usually we always give the benefit of the doubt but today we did not feel that there was an excuse for the service we received. We sat at the bar to watch the game, there were maybe 10 people total in there, my boyfriend sat the two times we finished our drinks with an empty glass and the bartender didn’t ask if he needed another or any interaction just constant walking by. It was always we needed to wave her down. No complaints about the food at all it was awesome it was just the knitty gritty things like asking how our food tasted or checking on us here and there, we never received that. We ordered the $5 well doubles and we both watched her do maybe a 3 count of liquor. We asked for boxes and our tab cause she wasn’t asking if we needed anything else and after sitting with an empty drink while she talks with her coworker at the bar we were over it. Unfortunately one of the first times we’ve ever left under 20% but it was very unacceptable. We will probably stick to the IC location from now on. Hope it was just a bad day for Chanell and it will be better for...
