This review is based on the cumulative experience of myself and my dining partner.
We have walked past this location several times and most times it seems to be sparsely populated with customers but never packed. That's one reason I had not been curious to patronize the establishment. However, we decided on a gamble of buying something for the first time.
We entered during a time when there should have been a lot of interested potential customers. It was a Friday night during the Art Walk. We were greeted by a friendly staff member that kindly informed us that only snacks were available at that time. This was approximately two hours prior to closing time. I knew then why there was only one other customer in the store.
I wanted to at least try something from the menu, so I ordered the marinated olives. My dining partner ordered the mini charcuterie. We didn't order anything to drink. The total is ~$13 pre-tax. They use Square (or something similar) as their point-of-sale system, so it automatically populates a request (not mandatory) for a tip. In all I paid about $17 and then sat at a very small table along with my friend.
Shortly after sitting, we were presented with our respective orders. One small bowl of marinated olives ($7) and a small board holding a few tiny slices of cheeses and meats ($6).
Disappointment does not adequately detail the emotion the moment we saw the portions. I was given about 10 olives in total, and I've seen more food in a Lunchables container than what was on the charcuterie board.
I figured that the quality of the food would be the reason for the miniscule portions. That reason was quickly dissolved when I popped an olive into the ol' piehole. Standard-issue "marinated olives" is the best descriptor of this overpriced bowl of fruit. I was also told they would be devoid of seeds. Wrong again. Oh, the joy of removing the seeds with each bite brings back memories of chewing on sticks when I was a lad.
My friend was hungry and chose to make the best creative use of the bite-sized morsels by combining the cheeses with the meats and gingerly biting tiny bits while laughing at the same time. If not for the absurdly disproportionate value of food, which made this event somewhat funny, I would have been keen to request a refund and return the items.
With the economy making grocery items less affordable, this was inexcusable pricing, nonetheless. Maybe the atmosphere is part of the culture here? Nope. Standard seating arrangements indoors and a little space outside.
If you're in the market for fringe dining, then this might be a good spot. I may return during the day to try something other than the olives I can buy in any jar at the grocery store. If I do, then I'll update this review...
Read moreLucy’s Snackbar is somewhere I want to root for, but it is suffering from some structural/procedural issues with their service. When I went, I ordered an iced coffee, a s’mores brownie (which was incredible), and a breakfast sandwich (which was fine). The people working there seem like very nice and well intentioned, but the brownie was handed to me in a waxed paper folded thing that didn’t really make sense whether I was eating it there or taking it to go. When I stood up at the bar in an attempt to get a fork, all the employees who saw me ignored me as if coming to help me would have constituted something outside their job description, which was rather frustrating. When food is ready, someone brings it to the bar, sets it out and yells out the title of the dish and then walks away. Half the shop’s seating is outside so there’s a really good chance that your food will be ready and you won’t know. It’ll sit there getting cold because the person who made it completed their job and that’s that. The service problems were made even more stark when we went around the corner to a bakery where everything was running smoothly because they had figured out a system for getting orders out and all the employees seemed on-board with being in the service industry and knew that no tasks were outside their purview. Maybe what I experienced was just an odd day at Lucy’s but if it operates like this on-the-regular, I would expect it to go out of business soon, which sucks because it’s the type of business I’d normally support...
Read morewell, I came over and asked for a cappuccino which comes with two shots, but comes in a little cup a little bitty cup, and it was too strong so I ask for some drip coffee. They charge me for another drip coffee for filling half of that cup up! the avocados are in a large bowl to make breakfast and thay still had the stickers still on them makes me wonder if they wash the avocados before slicing into them, the owner / manager sitting over to the side with her boy which runs around the place and got a glass bottle beverage out of the fridge and ran through the restaurant and she told him to put it up. He set it up on the counter is wobbling like it was about to hit the concrete floor just not run right they got crowded. The manager owner did not get up to help. She complained about food drop offs not the right order to the employees. Food was actually OK and the girl who prepared the breakfast was not happy but she did a good job. The tomatoes would’ve been good for like fried green tomatoes. They were a little bit , thick and hard needed a steak knife to cut. the bacon was good. The eggs were prepared good. The salad was good when I left I poured the rest of my coffee in a cup and asked him if he could fill it and he try to charge me again for another drip coffee I said no way, so I’m on my way. Beware and ask questions about what you’re actually...
