Shirley's Bagels — Restaurant in Costa Mesa

Normally I love this place but just had the worst food and customer service experience ever here. Since there’s no option to order the chicken chipotle panini online, we ordered the chicken chipotle bagel option. We left a note that said “please make the sandwich not the bagel”. Instead we got two bowls of chicken. When we called and asked what happened, both employees that we spoke with were incredibly rude and since we ordered through door dash that we had to address the issue with them.The second woman who we spoke to said since we said no bagel, they gave us no bagel. I told her that we asked for sandwich, and pointed out that sandwiches always come with bread. She just kept saying “you said no bagel so we did no bagel”. They never said sorry for the mix up or offered any remedy for the issue. We even chose an everything bagel in case they couldn’t switch it to a sand which because the sandwich/panini costs more. The worst part about the entire encounter is how rude the people were on the phone. It was clearly just a mix up, but their response was so bad and mean and made the whole issue so much worse. I never knew about Shirley's Bagels until they should up last year at a Yelp Breakfast event at the Fair. Met the owners and they were really nice. They gave us these free bagel and cream cheese coupons for the whole family.

It wasn't until recently I used one and the workers never seen a coupon like this. I guess that's what happens when you have a coupon with no expiration date and use it the year after! Ha! Anyways, I chose the japapeno and cheese bagel with lite cream cheese. I have to say, the bagel quality is really good (I actually went the next day to have a blueberry bagel and that was good too!) There was not enough cheese in my jalapeno and cheese bagel though. That's my only complaint.

What I don't like is that they put a sh*tload of cream cheese on your bagels. Sure I like cream cheese but I would say they put a good 3 oz on your bagels. A little overkill. I absolutely love shirleys, and recommend them to my friends all the time. I love the Californian breakfast bagel. Comes with protein, cheese, avocado, tomato, onion, egg and your choice of bagel. I love to add cream cheese to it. Yum! The price is not bad and it’s pretty filling. I would give them 5 stars if they had flavored creamer for the coffee! The coffee is way to strong and they don’t even offer French vanilla creamer! Only offer “syrups” as sweetener and it tastes so bad and doesn’t sweeten the coffee at all! You would think they would provide yummy tasting creamers especially because they are known for there breakfast. Every time I place an order (over the past 3 years about 3 times a week) I recommend them to bring in small flavored creamers but they still do nothing about it, and they are so cheap to purchase in bulk! You would make more money on coffee sales and not lose people that just go over to Starbucks across the way if you actually listened to...
