City Pharmacy is hit or miss. We used to frequent because of the ambiance and location, but there was very limited selection for people who have allergies meani g they didnt like to substitute how a meal was served with sides. They became less than accomodating and it left little to choose from. We stopped coming because overall the food was good but not great. We came back after a year or so of frequenting and to our surprise, a new chef, new manager, and the menu had labeled gluten-free itens in almost every category. They were please to accommodate any substitute item if we couldn't eat it. So we came back and enjoyed it. It was never amazing, but it was definitely better than average. We were pleased to eat in the " neighborhood". I bought a gift card for my son also to dine here. Today, we go in with family, and the brunch menu was shorter than normal, very limiting. After we ordered and waited a while for our food, the manager let us know that they do not substitute eggs and they make them one way which is fried. There was only a handful of things to choose from that were gluten-free,not marked, but to say that you are unable to make an egg over medium and not fried is really unacceptable. It takes 30 seconds to crack an egg and make a customer happy they paid 20+ for eggs at brunch. What that also told me,was not only were they more important than they thought, but that as a customer I was less important to them than cracking an egg my way. It also tells me that they did not make to order eggs and they had a bunch they fried beforehand and that is not good for a sit down brunch at 20+ a pop.We skipped going to the waffle house where Ican choose my egg how i want it and get it in 10 minutes for ambience and waited 45 min for someone to tell us you cant have your egg made the way you like to eat them As much money as one spends on brunch in a time where many people can't eat out,it's a sure way to lose steady business. So what really made us happy to return ends up that a different manager has a problem with making a simple egg to order, and we most likely won't spend the money there again. Why would we when we can go in and get what we want from a waffle house. Food taste is #1, customer service is #2 for us and ambiance is important, but not if the food doesn't taste good. It was really disappointing because we like the restaurant and the people who waited on us. When you spend more more for something less than what you want, people don't return for that kind of service,it just isn't worth it. I've complemented on here when its been great, but this was not...
Read moreMy wife and I wanted to have a nice dinner before we went to a concert in Atlanta . We arrived at the restaurant at 4:45 PM which allowed us a total of an hour and 15 minutes to have our meal . After being seated and receiving our menus we ordered our dinner at approximately 5 PM . We ordered some of the higher-priced items on the menu so this was not grabbing a burger and running or an appetizer and running but a decent bill that we would have when we were finished . At about 5:15 or wait person came out and put the steak knife down on the table and said our food would be out shortly . At 5:25 PM she came out again and apologized that the food was taking so long but that it took longer than hamburgers to cook . A couple minutes later she came out and said she had checked with the chef and the chef said it would be four more minutes and she assured us that it already been a couple of minutes so the food should be out any second . At 5:40 PM we decided we couldn’t no longer wait anymore because we had to make the concert in Atlanta and if the food came out at that point we wouldn’t have time to finish . At that point we left. No food had arrived. The sad part about this is that there was a couple who came in after us and sat down beside us . Not only did they get their food before us they were finished when we finally decided we had to leave . As always my test of the restaurant is would I come back. At the present time I don’t see why it would be beneficial simply because if you have to wait almost an hour and still not have your food why bother . One more thing : It wasn’t at the restaurant was short staffed because there were lots of wait staff in the restaurant . So much so that they had time to actually joke around and kid with each other in the hallway near where we were seated . I guess if you want to come and sit at the bar and spend lots of money on drinks it might be an OK place . But if you want to come and order one of the nicer items on the menu you’re gonna have to wait a long long time . Very disappointed ! Ended up having to go to the concert and not have...
Read moreI hesitate to write this review because CIty Pharmacy has been one of the only good restaurants within 15-20 miles of here (Conyers/Covington) in East Atlanta. I probably should have reviewed in the past as they would have gotten at least 4 stars. We have eaten at CP probably a half dozen times in the past couple years and have, generally, been very pleased with the quality of food. This is not a fine dining establishment but has been a very good local eatery with well-prepared and reasonably priced upscale Americana dishes. The decor and vibe in the place is really nice too.
We went last week with family and were pretty disappointed with the food. It came to light in our conversations with the server that there is a new chef as of recently. As new chefs will often do, they made a number of changes to the menu, including removing several of the most beloved items on the menu--namely the trout dish and a flourless chocolate cake that was outstanding.
What we did order--the meatloaf and the tagliatelle with braised short ribs were both quite mediocre. The meatloaf, another mainstay of their menu, has gone way downhill. It used to be really flavorful but in this case was very bland and under seasoned. We needed to salt the plate and it still fell short. Tagliatelle dish also was average at best. There was no depth or complexity to either dish at all.
The one highlight of the meal was the warm spinach salad. That was really good--great dressing! Overall, I'm bummed because I'm not feeling good about returning anytime soon and I don't want to throw the new chef under the bus but the food is not what it used to be.
Last note, our server was really nice and attentive but she needs to work on her wine service--seemed like she'd never opened/poured a bottle of wine before. Show up to the table with a napkin to catch the drops, pretty basic. Just a skill that needs a little practice.
I hope the new chef can work on their menu and the flavor profile of the plates, otherwise I fear the...
