Happy Lemon Bubble Tea — Restaurant in Covington

Some friends and I came in and ordered 6 drinks and when the girl working was handing them to us we noticed that she duplicated one of the drinks so we were missing 1 of the ones we ordered. I handed back one of the drinks she duplicated and pointed out the mistake very kindly and her response was to take a deep breath and roll her eyes like WE had done something wrong by asking her to actually make the drinks we paid for. She mumbled something under her breath while remaking our drink and then whispered something in her co-workers ear that they apparently thought was funny as they both started laughing. I was still trying to be nice about it so I told her “thanks so much” when she handed me the remade drink. She didn’t respond. Then when we were walking out we all said thanks again and told her to have a good night and again, she didn’t respond. Was kind of shocked by how we were treated and by her demeanor. The boba was hard. It seemed like it’s been out for too long. Customer service is nice. They are having a new owner and their new grand opening is 11/13.

I initially rated this place 3 stars, but after reading the owner’s response about their intended boba texture, I’m dropping it to 1 star.

As a Taiwanese native who grew up with boba tea on every corner and has tried countless brands, I can confidently say the texture they ‘aim for’ is not ideal. The boba was hard and stale from the first sip, as if it had been sitting out too long—not fresh at all. Instead of addressing this, they claimed it was normal, explaining that their boba firms up as it sits.

Other bubble tea shops serve boba mixed into smoothies without it turning hard and stale.

Under new management, you should focus on quality and stop making excuses for poor boba. I definitely won’t be returning to...

In all honesty. The staff at Happy Lemon in Covington are friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive (especially, there is a guy named Thai; I met him when I asked him for the restroom. He was so nice and kind when showing me the way as well as after that, he answered and gave me some recommendations to order drinks). He is always willing to answer any questions and help customers choose the perfect drink to suit their tastes.
