*EDIT TO REPLY TO OWNERS RESPONSE.... In your reply to my review you stated that you almost ran out of food that evening and normally we would have received more plates of Kim chi per dinner order. Well if you knew you weren't serving us the entire meal that we ordered (not enough kim chi or soup) then WHY DIDN'T YOU OFFER US A DISCOUNT???? Or just be honest and tell us that you're running short of food and let us decide if we still want to order or not. Why would you charge us full price for the meals knowing that you weren't serving us a full meal? You did not tell us that we wouldn't receive everything that we ordered. And you did not offer to comp our check due to the food shortage. It best it was dishonest and bad business. After reading your response, we definitely will not be coming back to your restaurant. REVIEW STARTS HERE.... Just left Hot Kim Chi for the first time and I will NOT be returning. We arrived around 7pm and waited over five minutes before anyone took our drink order. When people at our table started to order we were told there was no sushi or fried rice for the night. So we ordered 3 Beef Bulgolgi Dinners and 1 Japanese Ramen along with Korean Fried Chicken and Dumpling appetizers for the table. While the dumplings and Korean Fried Chicken tasted good, we were given napkins to eat them with, no dishes. Actually, almost everything else about the meal was horrible. Now I will say the bulgolgi we received was a decent portion and had a good flavor. But normally, when we have ordered bulgolgi at other Korean restaurants, we receive a table full of kim chi. And considering this place is named HOT KIM CHI I was extremely disappointed when 3 Dinner size portions of bulgolgi only landed us 4 small plates of kim chi. It's laughable that this amount of kim chi was to be shared between 3 people. Ive included a picture below. The menu stated "Soup and Korean Side Dish with every Bulgolgi Dinner". We never received any type of soup with our Bulgolgi dinners. Not too mention they had bean sprouts displayed in the cooler in the dining room but we didn't receive any with our meal. I have never been served bulgolgi without bean sprouts. The Japanese Ramen was good and was a good portion. The service left a lot to be desired. We had the following and it costs us $84.69 and a disappoint of a family meal. 1 order of Dumplings (6 ct.) 1 order of Korean Fried Chicken (6ct.) 3 Beef Bulgolgi Dinners 1 Japanese Ramen Dinner 4...
Read moreThis used to be a great restaurant, but since it has come under new management, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
First thing I noticed is that the menu changed. Not a big deal with new management, but it was strange to see that a menu that has only been in use for a couple weeks already has things crossed out and replaced on it. No matter. My husband tries to order the Korean fried chicken appetizer, and the waitress tells him they are out of fried chicken. Okay. Fine. He orders dumplings instead, which ended up being flavorless and greasy.
Now for entrees. He orders the Japanese ramen, I try to order the spicy squid. She tells me they're out of squid. They've only been open about 11 days, and they're already out of everything? Fine. So I order chicken bulgogi. Only in hindsight do I wonder why they're out of chicken for one dish but they can serve it in another.
On a side note, the table next to us tried to order fried rice and they were informed, guess what, they're out of fried rice. The table seemed to be in disbelief at this. The fact that they were out of select dishes like this indicates that it probably comes frozen or prepackaged and once they stock it gone, the menu item is "out."
When I do get my chicken, it's okay. Nothing special. A little dry. But what's really "amazing" is my husband's Japanese ramen. I don't know a lot about authentic ramen, but I do know about instant ramen, and had I seen the package in the garbage I wouldn't have been surprised. Tasted exactly the same; starchy, chewy, cheap tasting noodles.
Neither of us got a refill on our drinks, and that seemed typical as the other tables were getting incorrect drinks or not getting their order taken at all.
Maybe this experience was because they are new management and they're still figuring everything out, but for the price of the food, I wouldn't try it again to find out. Apologies for the lengthy review, but after having such high expectations from previous experiences with old management, this was severely disappointing. We won't be...
Read moreThis place may not look like much but it sure packs a lot of flavor and great food!
You HAVE to check this place out if you're looking for authentic Korean dishes and drinks. Absolutely amazing flavors on all the dishes we tried and their coffee was superb.
We tried their sweet potato noodles with steak dish which came with the hot Kim chi, homemade Cole slaw, and two dumplings. The dish was so packed with flavor, everything on it was delicious. I personally loved their coleslaw and the flavors in the noodle part of the dish. The Kim chi was amazing but it is spicy so I could not enjoy it as much as I wanted to (but that's how it's supposed to be spicy and delicious - I just can't handle spice as much).
We also sampled the Korean corn dog (which was my favorite guilty pleasure. A MUST try!) and the miso glazed salmon dish. The salmon was so packed with flavor it practically melted in your mouth.
The coffee, both house Korean and, was delicious! The Korean coffee came with a waffle crisp inside, perfect for dunking. The coffee wasn't too sweet but was not tart. Absolutely perfect blend. The other coffee came with homemade sugar "candies" (for lack of a better description) still not overpowering in sweetness but an interesting element for the drink. So yummy!! I would highly recommend it!
We also took home a slice of their homemade machi sponge cake and red bean mochi - so amazing- backed...
