Denny's — Restaurant in Culver City

This place is a hit or miss. Very capable staff but poor leadership/management on site to support them.

Previously had a good dining experience but not last week for breakfast. Waited about 15 mins to get seated and then was forgotten. People who arrived after us got their drinks and orders submitted before anyone came by. At this point we continue waiting while seeing things go to tables that got seated after us. I had to go back to the hostess who said she would come take our order. When she came we asked for a substitution on the order. I had ordered that exact substitution on a previous visit and it went smoothly previously. This time, she said she didn’t know how to do it or if they could do it so she needed to talk to the “lead”. The “lead” was a server that was basically covering (unsuccessfully) the whole restaurant. She came and said she also didn’t know how to put it in the ordering system and they had to check. They both left to the kitchen and when she returned she said “I think we can do it”. I asked, because she still sounded unsure, if there would be an extra charge and she said she wasn’t sure and that she was new. I asked if the shift manager or the GM were there. They weren’t. To be clear, I think this hostess/server was trying the best that she could but was obviously undertrained and left to cover a shift with little resources to lean on. It was not as busy as the weekends but they were clearly overall understaffed and undertrained. On my way out I asked again if a supervisor or manager was around. They confirmed no manager or lead was on site because the lady/manager comes in early to leave early.

FYI. On the previous visit (which was a great experience) they asked to leave a review and if you did they’ll send you $5 for next time approx 48 hrs after your review. This did not happen on the review from the previous visit. They even have stickers on the tables of that “review for $5” but it is not sent to you. Again, great potential but not great management. I Got There A Few Minutes After My Two Friends. Around 10pm. I Was Acknowledged As I Walked In By The Host. Letting Him Know My Party Was Seated. They Had Just Put Their Orders In. So, I Went To Our Waiter And Gave My Order. Everything Was Great! Food Hit The Table Hot, Almost Right After The Drinks. Perfect! We Asked For Two Plates Which Came Immediately. The Only Problem I Had Was When Our Waiter Stood Over Me With His Arm Stretched Out Over My Plates Of Food I Was Still Eating. I Asked Him, Sir Please Not To Lean Over My Food Nicely. Twice! As He Looked Me In The Eyes Like He Didn’t Understand Or Just Didn’t Care. Leaving His Arm Out Stretched Over My Plates To Collect The Money And Receipt He Had Just Leaned Over My Plates To Give My Friend That Was Paying. Why Wouldn’t He Pull His Arm Back After Being Asked? Thank GOD My Friend Recognized This Disrespect And Leaned Behind Me To Give Him The Cash And Receipt. I Do Appreciate That The Waiter Brought The Change Back On The Other Side Of Our Table Which Was In The Middle Of The Room With Isles On Both Sides Of Us. Instead Of Leaning Over My Plates Again. Thank You Sir! Besides That, I Still Left The Tip Because My Friend Paid For The Meal. Your Service Was Great! I Thanked The Kitchen And Our Waiter For Their Service And Honestly Everything Else Was Perfect! We Will Be Back On Another Thursday Night After Our Next Business Meeting. I recently visited Denny's and had a wonderful experience. The food was delicious and the service was exceptional. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal and excellent service.

I especially want to give a shoutout to Diego, the cook, and Luis, the waiter. Diego's attention to detail and skill in the kitchen truly shone through in the dishes that I ordered. Every bite was bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. It was clear that Diego takes great pride in his work and strives to create an exceptional dining experience for his customers.

Luz, my waiter, was equally impressive. She was friendly, attentive, and went out of her way to ensure that I had everything I needed. Her knowledge of the menu was impressive, and she was able to answer all of my questions and make excellent recommendations. She made me feel welcome and valued as a customer, and I left the restaurant feeling completely satisfied.
