Service was dreadful. Waiter walked up to our table and without even greeting us and/or introducing himself to us, asked us what we wanted to drink, we gave him our drink orders and started to tell him what appetizer we wanted but he had already walked away. Yep, turned his back and walked away as we were talking to him! Maybe he was having a bad day. My husband and I don't have patience for that kind of service though, even if it was due to having a foul day. There was nothing on the menu that sounded even remotely delicious and with a small, 1 page menu, you are stuck making one of those choices. While we were waiting for our drinks, we observed the hostess rag and get on to one of the other waiters about the way the menus were stacked or something. We felt embarrassed for her.I The hostess was loud and so rude to her. So between the service (or lack thereof) and the menu choices, we decided to leave. My husband paid for the drink and the appetizer that eventually got ordered but never to the table. The waiter was disgusted with my husband for leaving. We were not about to drop, easily, $100 for that kind of service. The only reason I'm giving this restaurant 2 stars is because we dined here a year ago and had a very different experience. Still a very small menu, but that time had a few delicious options. We love to support local and unique restaurants, unfortunately this is one place that we won't...
Read moreI am a self proclaimed food obsessive. I travel based on what I am going to eat. I think about my next meal while I’m still eating. It is very rare I can sit down to a meal and not find a single complaint with the food. I am a firm believer the bread course is a true tell of the food I am about to experience. I stepped away to wash my hands and upon my return, my mother admitted she had eaten all of the bread. This is a small but significant detail because my mother doesn’t really like bread. We asked for another basket and I finally got a taste. The bread course was simple but perfect. We ordered the exotic mushroom gnocchi, chicken liver pâté, and beet salad to start. Yeah, yeah. We love to eat. Every single thing was prepared perfectly. I will etch the horseradish yogurt into my mind for the future. The exotic mushrooms and gnocchi blew my mind. Can I get a cup of brown butter please? The main courses consisted of a smoked duck breast with an apple cider reduction and wild shrimp served on grit cake. Both were beyond. Needless to say, there was not a single bit food left on any plate. Who cares about being polite when the food is this good. The jury is still out on the dessert we are taking home, but if this meal is any indicator of the dessert, we are in for a treat. I’ve had $500 meals that weren’t this good. Don’t judge this book by the cover. It’s a...
Read moreMy girl and I decided to make an impromptu afternoon shopping trip to the North Georgia Premium Outlets on July 5th. Because it was later in the day, we started looking into finding a local restaurant; a gem, as we like to call them, so we would not be relegated to eating at one of those all too common suburban cookie cutter eateries. We came across The Blue Bicycle and checked out the reviews which were mostly positive with a few not so lustrous in which people complained about poor service, the lack of a child friendly menu and, of all things, the speed of which bread arrived at the table. Our experience was lovely. I was sure to test the critics by asking for a basket of bread straight away. It arrived very quickly and Chris, our server, was very friendly, courteous and attentive with out being too much so. The food was surprisingly good, and I say surprisingly because most out of the way, small town restaurants that we visit on our travels simply do not serve the quality of food as The Blue Bicycle. As for the lack of a child's menu, there is one available. If it isn't immediately provided, ask for it... I don't need one and, honestly, was glad to not have to worry about the possibility of an unhappy child ruining my meal. The ambiance was a little different to be sure but our time there was very well spent as...
