Came here for the spicy boiled fish fillet 水煮鱼片, my daughter's favorite Sichuan dish. The quality and value did not disappoint. It was very good. The spicy soup base and tender fish fillet, combined with veggies such as napa and bean sprouts sent you straight to heaven. It was a bit spicy but in a flavorful and tolerable way. Ordering from barcode can let you choose spicy level and opt-out MSG if it's undesired. Highly recommend this dish to everyone. The A vegetable dish (A 菜)we ordered was changed to bok choys (小白菜) without telling us first, citing "seasonal", which was fine yet I'd prefer them to communicate first, perhaps we don't like bok choys. It shows respect, doesn't it? The sweet and sour pork and the Mongolian beef with onions were both good! 👍 Service was just adequate, nothing to rave about. Although the male waiter was friendly but wasn't helpful. I asked him to kindly pack the to-go box for us due to messiness, but he didn't do it so my intention of 18%-20% tips didn't happen and the liquid was spilled on the table from my handling. Comparing to my last experience of getting waiter's help packing to-go and giving him good tips, service this time was average. Bright and clean environment. Overall great food and ok service. Hope they continue to improve service by communicating and checking...
Read moreCompared to the many copy-paste Sichuan/Hunan menus in the Bay Area, this restaurant truly stands out. It’s become our go-to spot for Hunan food — like a home kitchen away from home!
The owner is skilled, and every dish tastes like it’s made with heart. Besides the spicy Hunan staples, the homestyle dishes are also delicious and kid-friendly. Portions are generous, and everything goes perfectly with rice.
Highly recommend the stir-fry dishes – the pork, liver, and beef tongue stir-fries are all excellent.
My personal favorites are the stinky tofu, sour long beans, and braised intestines – rich in flavor, spicy, sour, and totally addictive!
The yellow croaker with preserved vegetables is very special and flavorful, and the beer duck is tender and richly seasoned.
Don’t miss the winter melon pork rib soup – big portion, comforting flavor, and perfect for little kids too. My baby loves mixing it with rice!
Service here is also exceptional – the staff are friendly, attentive, and responsive. The owner is always welcoming, open to feedback, and clearly passionate about the food. The place recently got renovated, and it’s now brighter and more comfortable.
A hidden gem for homestyle Hunan food – warm, flavorful, and worth returning to...
Read moreWe frequently visit Red Hot Wok next door but never ate here until recently. Our friends said it was their favorite restaurant hands down, so we tagged along with them. They’re from Hunan and so is my family, so I had high expectations which were let down.
For protein, we got a duck, frog, and tofu dish. They all had the same flavor profile—salty and oily—and way too much filler, not enough protein. The frog dish probably only had one frog. The only dish we completely finished was the hot and spicy shredded potato. The dishes also came out really slowly, maybe 15 minutes between each one, to the point we thought they had forgotten.
Patron bathroom was also out of order when we went, so you had to use the inside employee restroom.
Bench seating has this built-in wall, making it a bit awkward if you have a belly or are less mobile.
Small parking lot but plenty of street parking around. No wait on a...
