My first and last visit to Imperial City Chinese Restaurant in Cypress TX. There is zero ambiance, if that matters to you. We walked in to an empty restaurant and seated ourselves. Country music played over the speaker system. No wall hangings or other decorations to suggest a Chinese theme. Service was fairly prompt and I ordered the Kung Pao triple delight with a side of pork egg rolls and iced tea. The ice tea was delivered and I just caught myself before telling the waiter I had not ordered water. It did have a tad of a tea taste so I attributed the pale color to an exotic tea blend. The pork egg rolls arrived. The appearance was good, but there was no hot Chinese mustard with the rolls or at the table, or at any other table. With no waitstaff to be seen, my wife wandered off on a quest for hot mustard. She returned with mustard and I took a bite of a cold, tough, tasteless egg roll. It just had no flavor. Before a second bite, my entree arrived prematurely. Now what to do, finish the appetizer and let the Kung Pao Triple Delight get cold, or abandon the egg rolls and dive into the entree which looked and smelled great. Of course I chose the entree and took several bites. Such disappointment that resulted from those few nibbles. There just was no Kung Pao flavor. The dish appeared to have all the right components but was sadly lacking in that spicy flavor one expects. Bland is a good word for the entire meal. If a restaurant wants to charge a premium $14 for an entree, they need to deliver a quality product. You won't...
Read moreThis is my absolute favorite Chinese place all of Cypress!
The food is absolutely amazing and the proportions are always extremely generous! I highly recommend eating here if you are or interested in ordering take out or looking for a great dine spot for Chinese food.
Personally, my favorite things to order on the menu are the
One of the following appetizers: Eggrolls/Spring Rolls Fried Biscuits Fried Dumplings
One of the following entrees:
Sesame Chicken Mongolian Beef A dinner size portion of Chicken Fried Rice
Whenever Im on my own for dinner and I’m working at home on a studio project, i love just calling in an order of Chicken Fried Rice with some egg rolls and a drink. It fills me up and lets me get back to working pretty quickly and with the large proportion there’s almost always enough to stick in the fridge and enjoy as left overs either for lunch the next day or the day after which ends up saving me money that would’ve otherwise been spent on fast food or something.
My other favorite thing to order is the sesame chicken, the sauce has a sweet & savory flavor that’s fantastic! It’s a great option for anyone who might have a kid who’s a picky eater since it’s chicken with mildly sweet sauce that isn’t spicy.
The staff is always super nice too!
I’ve lived in Cypress since 2007, and this has been my go to restaurant for Chinese the entire time...
Read moreWe are HUGE Chinese food fans and have eaten from just about every restaurant in our area. Because this one is so close to our home and we had not yet tried it, I decided to ignore the lower reviews and give it a shot. I am SO glad that I did! First of all--THE EGGROLL! That was THE BEST eggroll I have had since I was a kid! It was large, filled with cabbage, and had just the right amount of ground pork pieces. It had the perfect amount of crunchy bite--loved it. The portion of shrimp fried rice was more than generous and SO good. The shrimp was fresh and very tasty. I also ordered sesame chicken for the kids, but I tried a little. The sauce was absolutely delicious and the pieces of chicken were large and fresh. The only thing that wasn't the best was the bbq pork ribs. The sauce was VERY good, but the meat just didn't have that firm texture I've become accustomed too. Still, that wasn't enough to overshadow the rest. The gentleman who made the delivery was so kind-- what a pleasure! Overall, an experience that will be repeated (sans bbq ribs). We are looking forward to our next order and to try even more dishes. I HIGHLY recommend this...
