Considering the prices, and their proximity to a Kroger with plenty of fresh food you'd think you'd have something pretty nice here, but no, the food tastes as cheap as it looks.
The large queso bowl was the size of a small at most other restaurants, didn't even have chili peppers in the cheese, just some jalapeno slices on the side. Wasn't awful but you can get more bang for your buck at any other place.
I got a "cheese puff" that was just a small upside down tortilla shell with a spoonful of queso on top. The shell itself was identical to the one my taco was served in. Nothing on the inside. Not even remotely "puffed" by any stretch of the definition so I felt pretty deceived. I complained to the waiter and he insisted what was on my plate was what a cheese puff was supposed to be, and honestly I'm more upset he had the gal to say that than anything.
Enchiladas just tasted... off. I can't really describe it but it just did not taste good at all. Almost like they used stale or spoiled ingredients? That's what it tasted like at least, I took one bite and had enough.
I have no idea where all these good reviews are coming from, because on a Friday night this place was absolutely dead and my friends and family have been telling me that I shouldn't have gone. Pretty sure we watched someone dine and dash while we were there, and while I do not condone stealing food, I can hardly blame the person considering the prices and quality of the food for not wanting to pay for it.
I'm really not one to write bad reviews, and I always try to be understanding of a bad day or something at a restaurant having worked in food service myself, but this place obviously has issues with charging too much for too little and not using fresh ingredients. They're cheaping out on the food despite what they're charging and it...
Read moreVery average Tex mex. not sure about all the 5 star reviews here? I can only surmise that the customers who posted them are easily pleased or do not have a discerning palette. This is my first visit here, the restaurant had a pleasant decor, service was a bit languid, as we arrived at 8:40pm and they closed at 9. There were 4 tables w customers still. We felt rushed especially 5 min after we got our food, they turned the music off at 9:00pm as if to signal us it was time to leave. I thought it was rude and intrusive, so I played some bachata/merengue music on my iPhone instead it wasn’t as if I was going to camp out or anything as I’ve worked in food service in my youth and I know what a grind it can be but you don’t rush out a paying customer who just received a meal. Anyway.... Had the chili relleno and it was very bland, as was the rice and beans. Queso was watered down. Ordered the grande house marg and it was weak. I ordered a shot of their house well tequila to top it off and that was 5.75 and helped a little. The highlight was the hot green sauce which was excellent. (You have to ask for it). Overall, very ordinary wouldn’t return. Too many other worthy Tex mex spots in NW Houston and Cypress...
Read moreThis is my second time trying this place and unfortunately they missed the mark yet again with me . We ordered the deluxe dinner and a full order of beef nachos for carry out. The beef nachos were burnt , very dry , and surprisingly tasteless. So tasteless that I went across the street to taco Cabana and compared the nachos immediately. I am not even a Taco Cabana fan , but for an authentic restaurant you have to at least beat out your competition, come on La Maria! The deluxe dinner had a good portion size but the taste of the ground beef was NOT good . The after taste was so bad I thought it was spoiled, my kids said it tasted "funny" . We stopped eating it immediately. I contemplated calling the manager and complaining but realized my efforts would be futile, ...the food just isn't good . They can keep my money because my family and I will never return. If you are a Tex Mex fan like I am , avoid this place...
