The ambiance and service were great!
However, I felt the food was very lackluster, especially for the price. We had the avocado toast, vanilla custard toast, and breakfast sandwich.
The avocado toast was pretty pricey at $18, +$2 to add an egg, and $8 for a side of bacon. If you do not add the bacon and egg, you are essentially paying for greens, a piece of bread, and some avocado - pretty little substance. The avocado portion of this was premade guac and pretty bland. The bread was good, but there were too many greens and they added too much bitterness to the dish - this was essentially a $28 avocado toast that was average at best.
The breakfast sandwich was served on a hamburger bun and served with your standard frozen potatoes that had been warmed up with little seasoning. The egg on the sandwich was essentially an entire tri-folded omelet which sounds good, but in reality it made the sandwich pretty hard to eat. I would have rather have had less egg and a better bread choice for the sandwich.
The vanilla toast was good, but a little dry from the reheating. With the pudding/custard interior I expected it to be more velvety than have a consistency similar to a pound cake.
Our total bill after tip was almost $100 for 2 people - I’m fine with, and enjoy, a pricier breakfast but expect the food to rise to the cost. There are far better restaurants in the area I would recommend before City...
Read moreMy friend and I had brunch. I ordered the ham and cheese omelet requesting breakfast potatoes instead of the side salad. When our meals came, the potatoes were significantly undercooked. When this was brought to the attention of the staff, they took my entire plate away. When the meal was brought back, I was told they had remade the meal. I started to eat the omelet and noticed that it tasted different. The second omelet had been made with an incorrect ingredient, the wrong type of cheese. I pointed this out to our server and she said she was sorry but nothing happened. I stopped eating my meal. The server came back and said they were going to give me a pastry for all the trouble. They pastry was packed up to go. They brought the bill and I was charged for the meal, including an additional charge for the potatoes but was given a discount of $4.95. So I did not get an edible meal. My friend finished eating while I was waiting for my plate to be fixed. Overall our experience was very poor. To make matters worse, once we left the restaurant, we had to wait almost half an hour to get our car from the valet. The valet is also run by the Adolphus Hotel, same as the restaurant. If you are looking for breakfast, lunch or brunch, do not bother going to City...
Read moreThis place gets 3 Stars from me for one single reason. The food. The most important thing in the food bizz right.
Before I go bad, Let me speak on the good. Everything but the food was very good. The staff all the way from the host, waitress to the busboy were some of the most welcoming and attentive I've encountered at a restaurant.
Decor in the Hotel is classy and dated but once you walk in the bistro you're 20 years into the future, modern, clean and bright.
The food was a huge disappointment. 2 waffle plates with sides of sausage, 1 omelette and some champagne.
Cheap quality. I'd pay more for better champagne. Didn't see any option. The food took long (as expected) and came warm. It went cold 5-10 min after arriving. I expect a 15 dollar waffle and 5 dollar side to be at least on par. Crispy outside, fluffy inside. Sausage hot, tender and juicy. My god.
Everything was the opposite. Below par IMO. Maybe I caught the cook on a bad day. I'd say try it and hopefully the food is good to...
