This place was beyond disappointing due to one factor alone: The owner/manager Kay/Key (whoever it was) was extremely defensive and showed such a lack of concern or willingness to communicate in every regard that I cannot recommend this place.
Quick Summary: 7/14/23: I was visiting my best friend (please see additional review from Maganda Marie) for the weekend and I wanted to get our nails done. We got our nails done by two very nice nail techs who were chatty and engaging. Post Visit: After we left, my right big toe was in so much pain presenting as hot to the touch, swelling, and throbbing. ER: We go to the ER in Uptown and after the MD's assessment she diagnosed it as a Bacterial Infection, which is very common in pedicures. Post ER Visit: The next day we alerted the Nail Bar of my ER visit and Chris (Front desk) communicated he would talk to his manager about getting a partial refund for just the pedicure, but confirmed he did receive my email.
The Confrontation with the Manager/Owner: Owner Kayla/Kay/Key (I don't fully remember her name) answered and I explain that I had come in, received a service and sustained a bacterial infection from their facility. She was immediately defensive and listed the following:
The owner continued to cut me off and repeat the same thing about being able to offer a copy of ingredients to my MD, but made no indication that it would lead to a refund. I even had to stop her firmly to get a word in. I directly had to ask that based on the given information, it was my understanding she was not giving me a refund. She confirmed I would not get a refund. I politely declined further discussion and expressed that at the very least, it would've been nice to get follow up or notified that I wasn't going to get a refund, which she retorted was not her responsibility.
Summary: I am absolutely floored by the level of unprofessionalism by this owner. Communication was completely null and void. She was informed of this incident and decided to resolve my issue without actually talking to me and didn't even give me the common courtesy to let me know I wasn't going to get a refund until I had to reach out a MONTH later. I'm all for defending employees, but any other professional would've handled it better. $50~ PARTIAL refund is apparently too much to ask, let alone an apology that never happened.
0/10 will never go there or...
Read moreThis was such a shame. I really wanted to like this place, but because of how they treated my friend I cannot recommend this place AT ALL. Sadly, it's basically all because of the manager/owner.
This will be a long one: My friend was visiting from another state, and she wanted to get our nails done together. We picked this place because it looked cute. We got our nails done by two REALLY NICE people, both were very kind and chatty. At one point, he pointed to a scar/scab on her knee and asked how that came to be. My friend told him she was holding a turtle and tripped, saving the turtle but not her knees about a month ago. We laughed and the pedicure went on. The nail-techs were using tools that were pre-packaged for sanitary reasons, changed the waters before our pedicure, and basically everything they were taught to keep the customers safe. By the end of our manicure/pedicure we were satisfied and paid for the services.
Afterwards, we went to the cute art museum next door and then to a bar/craft room to sit for a few hours making art. After a few hours of sitting, my friend says her big toe feels like it's hot. After another 30 min, she says it feels like it's swelling. We finish our art and go to an arcade, where we have to stand to play games. After another hour, she says she can't stand anymore, it hurts too much. She limps back to the car and we go back to our hotel room. In our room, her toe is obviously swollen. She tries putting it in cold water to get the swelling down. We try to ice wrap it to go to sleep. At 5am she was already awake, unable to sleep due to pain and discomfort. We went to a nearby emergency room for treatment. The medical professional on duty informed my friend that she had a bacterial infection on her big toe, and after knowing that we came from a pedicure we were told it's actually common to get those from pedicures. Especially if there was a micro-cut that bacteria can get into. We received her treatment and medication and left the ER to try to get a little bit more sleep. When we woke up, we called the nail salon to inform them that this happened. I was the one who did the initial call, but my friend called back to ask if she can have a refund of some sort. The front-desk personnel, Chris, said he would contact us for the refund.
The day goes by, and she is not contacted. The next time she calls, she is told they are busy, and to email them. Again, no contact. It has been a month and she has called and got a hold of the manager/owner, Kayla. She explained that a month ago she received a bacterial infection from her pedicure and was waiting for her refund. The manager/owner informed her that she is not getting a refund, because it was not their fault. When my friend asked what she meant, the manager/owner gave these excuses to my friend:
she claimed my friend got the bacterial infection from the wound on her KNEE (that was from a month prior and already scarring) she claimed that my friend could potentially have an allergy, therefore not her responsibility (an allergy that only happens on... one toe? That doesn't make sense.)
The manager/owner was very aggressive, unhelpful, and unprofessional. My friend has given up on getting her refund because her plight has fell on deaf ears. The manager/owner refuses to take accountability. Weather this is to save her employees (which we STRONGLY express were two very sweet people) or to save her business some money (The refund is about $100, which really isn't a lot to placate a customer) the manager/owner has gone about this in the worst way possible.
Because of her actions, I highly do not recommend...
Read moreI wanted to like this nail salon. I really did. But let me give the break down for my ratings. After two different manicures I realize the gel manicures here just do not last more than a week (if you’re lucky) After having one pedicure done here, I see that the paint jobs are not good. I could have done the pain job myself. It does last, however it’s not as good as most salons. The pedicure itself was ok but nothing different than others. The location is nice and convenient for those that live in the downtown area. The best thing about this location is that although it’s downtown there is parking available which they can validate for you so you have free parking provided to you. One less thing to worry about. People are friendly. The second time I tried this place the customers were really loud and over the top. A salon should be quiet. Ambience. Again I suppose you can’t control the customers however if you get a pedicure the sounds around don’t matter as they provide head phone so you can listen to music while getting a pedicure. Headphones are great. No massage chairs which wasn’t a big deal to me. I prefer getting a massage by a person instead of a chair anyway lol. But if this is something you look forward to then you may not like it. Wait time. It depends. Some are on time others aren’t. They may switch up the nail pro on you. I selected a specific nail person for a pedicure and someone started working on me and I didn’t realize (being my first time meeting them) until they had already started so just confirm the person as soon as you walk in so they don’t switch up on you. Prices are actually good but it doesn’t make up for the quality. :/ Colors available seem pretty good. Good variety of colors. Decor: nice decor over all there are some faux greenery around. TVs, etc. Cleanliness it does appear clean and customer are asked to wash hands when they arrive. Overall. I won’t be back but if you’re lucky get a good manicurist or pedicurist I’d discourage you from trying anyone else. It wasn’t terrible, but also wasn’t great. It would do in a pinch if I just need my nails done for the day or next day and didn’t mind the gel nail polish...
