Probably great atmosphere when the staff are better at their jobs and more interested in customer service. We arrived at 10:45 and were told it was last call and no food service because the kitchen was closed. Not even in a friendly way. Took our drink orders and then just said, "By the way, it's last call." We ordered drinks and sat down at the bar. Fifteen minutes later, a gentleman came in and was told it was last call, and so he left. Drinks were $14ea. Food that I noticed was about $12-18 on the menu.
The bartender already closed the register and was talking to an Australian couple about how much he would love touring Australia with a local couple who were enjoying the conversation. I think his name was Joe, a tall, slender young man with long curly hair.
My partner and I are drinking our drinks, watching the game. Another couple comes in at 11:15 and they are again told the bar is closed, but he serves her a glass of wine and they charge it to their room. At this point, the four of us go out on the terrace, probably a great view in summer when it's warmer and lighter outside. We chat briefly about the closing time, which clearly states midnight on the website.
We go downstairs to buy a bottle of water from the front desk. The concierge tells us they can close whenever they want based on business and that it is owned by a separate company, not Marriott. I just saw a bartender serve two couples beer and turn away teo other couples and a single guy who may have ordered multiple drinks and food.
Lesson learned: Don't waste time with HQ Rooftops no matter where they are. If you're staying in a hotel and hoping to wind down after a night out before going to bed, just skip it. Go somewhere with actual business hours and better service. You can get better food and drinks at comparable prices without the...
Read moreI decided to swing by for a bit tonight. I was a little disappointed. The rooftop view wasn't the greatest -- not much skyline to see. You get a view on the side of Reunion Tower and some other buildings, but, not a skyline like the website states. The venue itself, for being atop a Marriott hotel, is a nice space to relax.
I tried one cocktail from their menu, which disappointed in flavor. I went with a Gin and Tonic after that. I also tried the BBQ Pulled Pork Tacos. They weren't terrible, but, I didn't finish the trio after having one.
What I can say is that the service is great. The bartenders were attentive and did well. I appreciate that they moved quickly to help when the terrace door clipped my finger and I was bleeding a bit. One bartender went downstairs to the kitchen to find some Band-Aids for me, which I appreciated (they didn't find any up at the bar). Overall, I am glad I tried this spot, but, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone wanting a good rooftop bar view. Keep expectations low on specialty...
Read moreHQ Dallas Rooftop Bar on a Friday evening was a really chill vibe with a cool view. The view and vibe weren't the only things that were icy: there were no patio heaters, so hanging out on the roof in December was freezing. The crowd was also cold as a corpse - the place was fairly empty, which wasn't too bad, since it's a small space, more suited to casual chatting with friends or a date.
My wife and I went to scout it out and see if we wanted to spend New Year's Eve at the HQ rooftop party, which still has tickets for the 2024-- 2025 party for $65 as of this review. The view was great, but the small space, lack of heaters, and overall feel left us looking for somewhere else to spend New Year's together.
We'd probably come back during the Spring or Fall to enjoy a nice view and a few drinks. It's a pretty cool place, and definitely worth...
