Jettison is a reliable, reputable Dallas speakeasy that serves a variety of classic cocktails, beers, wines, spirits, as well as special drinks with unique Japanese or Mexican twists. The atmosphere is cozy, every drink has care and thought put into doing it right, and the regulars seem like very nice and interesting people. I'd suggest getting a reservation (which they make really easy to do on their site!) if you plan on going there or building a cadence of visiting. Lastly, the men behind the bar (Giovanni & Bar Manager George) are great at what they do and class acts.
I'd also like to add on the note about George & Giovanni: they really have gone above and beyond in their dealings with me over the last couple of visits. I recently moved to the block this speakeasy is at, and they have done their best to make me comfortable with visiting and discussing the area. I also feel bad because I recently brought a guest who said some rude/uncomfortable things to them, which they very professionally shrugged off. I learned that they certainly could deal with those types of situations with grace, but I'm aware that absolutely nobody should ever need to do so, especially in their own establishment. Despite that, they still treated me kindly afterwards and made me feel welcome in the neighborhood. I'll be sure to filter who I bring in there going forward, to keep the...
Read moreI never write reviews but feel obligated to do so after my experience at this bar last night. I brought my girlfriend here as a surprise/ to support a local business and while the drinks and vibe are great, we were both pretty disappointed by the pompous bartenders. I asked both bartenders simple questions about their thoughts on specific drinks as well as their charcuterie board and was given answers that were snobby and pretty condescending. If a customer asks “how are the meats on the charcuterie board?”, I would expect a response to be “well let me tell you about them since there is no explanation on the menu”. Instead I received “they are great of course, we wouldn’t put anything on the menu that wasn’t amazing”. I received the same time of response when inquiring about one of their mezcal drinks and was merely looking to be educated on their products. Further, when we walked into the place, we sat down at a relatively empty bar except for three other patrons who happened to be friends of the bartender. It was awkward to be facing a bartender who is delivering a toast with the patrons to the right and left of you while you are ignored. I want to support local businesses but I felt this spot was very uninviting and I won’t be recommending it...
Read moreYes, you're going to spend $5.75 on a cup of coffee, get ready for it.
If I were to tell you to close your eyes, and then said "hipster coffee shop", what would pop into your head? Would it be whitewashed walls with pops of wood and glass? Would it be menus on craft paper, stuck onto clipboard stock? would there be a polished river stone somewhere on the counter, seemingly without purpose? If you imagined all of these things, you'd be perfectly correct. Not that there is anything wrong with it, I might add. I love the self-important coffee shops just as much as the next person, I feel like it is the cost one must pay for an actually good cup of the stuff. Would I ever go there daily? Probably not. I view it more of a treat from time to time, but if I had the money or the time, I probably would try to hit them up at least a few times a week. They make a good cup of coffee, in whichever fashion you like to order it. Staff is always friendly, service is fast, and the ambiance is wonderful for a relaxing time reading the paper, goofing off on your phone, or getting some work done. Music is low, there is lots of natural light, and so long as you really enjoy what you ordered, I'd call the $5.75 spent a...
