Merit Coffee Co. — Restaurant in Dallas

Improving? I have been a long time regular at merit. I frequented the deep ellum location multiple times a week for while and since they opened the Lakewood location, I was happy due to the nearness to my house. The wait times initially were insane. With no crowd, order an espresso drink and it could take up to 15 minutes. I will say the speed has seemed to have gotten better over the last month. My big qualm though is that their espresso is inconsistent. I’m not sure if they don’t dial in their machine daily or what but the espresso is often not balanced, bitter, and possibly under-extracted. I use merit beans at home in my espresso machine so I know it’s not the coffee…

I love merit but the shots at this location could use some work.

Also 2$ for a tiny side of cream cheese? I think that’s absurd.

I had a really weird experience here. I love trying coffee shops around Dallas and saw this place next door to the restaurant we were eating at and decided to pop in. We walked in and up to the register and weren’t greeted by the guy there (which I didn’t think much of initially). We were standing looking at the menu, and my boyfriend told the barista “hey man, how’s it going?”. The guy looked up at him, made eye contact, then said nothing and looked away. We just stopped into Merit Coffee for our first time and there was a long line the whole time. It’s a very popular place, apparently! The line went quickly, though, and we were only waiting for around 5 minutes. It’s really cute in there and they have lots of tables outside, as well. I got the 16oz. iced lavender latte and my husband got the 16oz. subzero frozen cold brew. My lavender latte was great and the subzero was even better!! We might be back later this afternoon to get 2 more subzeros. My only complaint is that we got the subzero in a 12 oz. cup even thought the barista announced...
