We received chips and salsa when we first sat down. The chips were a little stale but the salsa was good. Note they brought one small cup of salsa for a table of 4 and it wasn't even full. Usually this entails at least 2 cups or at least a full cup. Our waiter seemed like she didn't want to be there and honestly had no enthusiasm whatsoever. She spent more time talking to other waitresses in the back and on her phone than paying attention to her tables. When our food was brought to us we asked for more chips and salsa and to see if there were any other kinds of salsas. We ordered tacos and a soup. We also asked for a spoon to eat the rice with. She brought napkins with utensils. While I understand that some already had a spoon because of the soup we were short a napkin, which we never got even after asking for it. She brought the habanero salsa and honestly besides being spicy there was no taste to it and we never ate much of it. The second round of chips and salsa were good but took us complaining to a second waiter to get it. Note that our waiter was not busy at all as she popped up as soon as she saw us talking to the second waiter. The food itself was not bad. But when we got our bill we were surprised to find out that we were charged for the 2nd order or chips and salsa as well as the habanero salsa. I mean we ordered tacos why wouldn't the salsa come complementary and honestly it was less than half their salsa cup full and we got charged $3 for it and we didn't even eat it because it wasn't good. I'm always surprised when restaurants charge for more chips and salsa but don't bring out enough for the table to begin with and honestly haven't sat in a restaurant in years where they charge for this. I have definitely never been in a restaurant that serves tacos and charges for the salsa, I mean it tacos wouldn't it be a given that it comes with it? Our group was pretty divided in saying half would give the place another shot later on down the line and if they didn't have anywhere else to go, while the other half said they wouldn't waste their time coming back and leaving unsatisfied with their...
Read moreThis used to be my go-to spot for amazing drinks. I liv d every drink I ever had here because I could tell they were made with fresh ingredients-- not a mix like most restaurants. But today...well, today was even worse than horrific. I found myself switching from drink to drink in search of something great only to find Kool-aid tasting, sugary mass produced swill filled with a tiny bit of alcohol. I even asked my server (who was outstanding) if the drinks had switched to mixes, to which she responded that they had run out of fresh strawberries today so they had used a mix. I'm sorry, but for the price they are charging for drinks, I expect high quality ingredients. I could have made these at home with the same terrible mixers and paid 1/10 of what I paid. Moreover, I literally tried 4 different drinks, and they ALL tasted like mixes (whennin the past they've been out of this world great). Absolutely TERRIBLE. And the ceviche and guacamole was nowhere near as great as it normally is: very little seasoning or spice. I'm planning on giving this place one more chance, hoping they find the error of their ways, but after that, I'm done. And I'm telling everyone I've converted into Palapas believers into...
Read moreThere were 4 of us. The other 3 got oysters as an app and raved about them. That was about it. Our main courses were unseasoned and has no flavor. In fact, the best part of my plate was the beans. I ordered the Tacos Carne Asasa. It came 3 to a plate with beans and rice. The rice almost had a texture of couscous. It was flavorless and would almost disintegrate in your fingers. The 'pico' was just tomatoes and the beef was sliced up into small cubes. I ate 2 of the 3. The 2nd because I was so hungry. I understand it was a seafood bar but how can a mexican restaurant serve a mexican dish in such poor fashion?
The check took a while to get to the table after having asked and instead of splitting like we initially requested, he insinuated that it would just be one check. I paid cash while the other 3 paid with a card. When they got their respective tickets, they noticed an automatic gratuity that was added to their checks. Not the best expeience that we all feel we over paid for and left still hungry.
Salsa was ok, mango chili...
