Garrett Park is a smallish neighborhood park located between Old East Dallas and Lower Greenville. It has the usual meandering concrete walkway which more or less circles the park. A few benches, a couple of steel picnic tables. One cool feature that impressed me was a sort of “indoor” soccer court. Soccer on rollerblades?
Contrary to other reviews the grass was well kept. Not perfect but nice. There are a lot of wonderful shade trees around the park’s border. Nothing actually in the middle but some of the trees were beautiful. It’ll get hot hot hot in the summer. I also did not notice any litter on the ground. There were no dogs there at all and I saw/smelled no dog poop.
When I first arrived at the park I saw an overturned grocery cart and some rags. As I got closer I saw shoes scattered all about (?) and a man laying on filthy rags or a sleeping bag. Over at the kitty playland one guy was sitting down watching over his young child. Another guy by the soccer rink, just hanging out. Another at one corner of the park, almost hidden in the shade, also hanging. A couple of small groups of men on the picnic tables... hanging out.
I want to give this park a higher rating but in all conscience I can’t. I wouldn’t want to bring my child here, I felt uncomfortably like I was being watched and I imagine things get really...
Read moreGarrett Park is pretty cool little place. Is a wide variety of opportunities for you to entertain yourself. Great place for a frisbee. Is it cool playground for the kids probably up to like 6 or 7 years old. Some soccer field action. You in some tennis courts. I will say that it's probably best if you go to this place during the day because in the evening it's not as well as I would like and there are a few shall we say sketchy folks around after dark. I hate that I have to include that but these days you just never know. We have to keep ourselves safe because no one else is going to do it for us. Go have fun enjoy your day and be home by night to watch America's Funniest...
Read moreI love parks, most of them and I admit that this one has come a long way. However, it took 3 years and gentrification in order to get the soccer court. I inquired (about the ppl of the community and parks&rec to cone together to gather funds for a proper grass soccer court/field and a basketball court) about two or three years ago. Parks & recs claimed it wasn't in the budget. Yet as soon as the Black and Brown faces are shoved out...low and behold...here comes a soccer court. I'm glad that the community has it now(3stars) and hopefully coming into more, yet the people that occupied these premises deserved it as well. Think on it, ponder in your sleep, this how y'all...
