Haven't been to this place in a while since we live across the bay now. The place has improved exponentially since we lived in the area more than ten years ago. Even the quality of the restaurants has improved greatly. This place is a perfect example of that. You dont find very many ramen places that are worth reviewing anymore. Most wannabe ramen places just leave a lot to be desired. This place, however, is different. We came in a but late and thought they were just about to close. When they accomodated us, I was frankly impressed. Our server came to check up on us promptly and was very nice. I will never forget that genuine smile on her face and her eagerness to seve us. Seemed like she was very knowledgeable about their menu and when told some of us (like me) could no longer have spicy food, she helped us by suggesting some things she can do to accommodate that. Although I agree with her that a little spice in my rice would have made me eat a lot more...đ. Anyway, I ended up ordering their Karaage dinner, while the rest tried their ramen. I must admit, I almost regret doing that, but when my chicken arrived, it was deliciously authentic. Cooked the way I know my japanese aunt or mom or grandma would have cooked it for me. The ramen also took the cake for authenticity as well. I have not been to a ramen place in the bay area that tasted this good for the price. Like I always say, "You get what you pay for..." however, at this place it looks like we got more than we bargained for. The ramen places we've been to in the recent past were all expensive and frankly not really places I would bother to come back to. This place though...well...falls in a different category. I really, definitely will be back for the ramen next time. It was a sizeable serving, served hot and really really good. The noodles were ramen noodles! Unlike those wannabe places where they use the thick soba noodles and pass them off as ramen noodles...i'm sorry but that will not work for me. I will definitely give this place 4 out of 5 stars only because I still want to try everything else on their menu, especially my own bowl of ramen...
Read moreTo the Owner: Do you truly understand what spicy means? I specifically asked your male server if the Japanese curry dinner was spicy at all due to severe allergies. He paused for a moment and replied, "No". I gave your eatery one chance. The curry I tasted was spicy, causing shooting pain into my ears. My boyfriend felt awful and offered me another dish, however, we are both on limited budgets. Little flavor. This is NOT the Japanese curry I am familiar with. With all due respect, I make curry with more flavors. You deceived me. In addition, my boyfriend was not pleased with his fish dinner. He commented that the fish seemed to be overcooked. I suggested another meal replacement for him as well. HUGE disappointment. Why did your decorative counter light turn off? Were you already closing? Turning off the lights during business hours is very rude and unwelcoming. A bit too dark. I thought I heard rap music? Not the most relaxing, appropriate and traditional style. Your bathroom appearance was repulsive and hideous. Perhaps you can apply the costly menu prices towards the cleaning system? We are understanding, kind and humble people. Please kindly do diligence and fix this...
Read moreThis place has a nice charm about it. It's a little pricey for what it is, but it's very adequate for cravings. My boyfriend got the tonkotsu ramen and I got the flame roll. With tax and tip we walked away $31 dollars lighter, which is a bit steep in my opinion, as our meal felt much more like a 26$ with tax and tip. The flame roll is good; delicious sauce drizzled over fresh spicy tuna and a nice crunch with shrimp tempura in the mix. My only issue was the roll was quite tall per bite, and could have been made to a 10 piece instead of an 8 piece, since I had to open my mouth so big to fit it (12.95 at time of posting). The ramen broth was a balanced tasty, rich and sweet, without being overwhelming. My boyfriend added earwood mushrooms for $.50, but the soup itself was nice even without them. Noodles were perfect ramen Al dente, which is always a plus (13.95 at time of posting). I don't know if I'll come back here for anything in particular, as nothing really stood out, but this place is convenient as any. If you're craving sushi and are in the area, it will kill the craving as...
