Poorly executed opening...this location is too small for the volume it will get, and corporate should have known better based on the popularity of the Foley Whataburger location (which routinely sees drive thru lines to the street, even at 10pm on weeknights).
Upon arrival we were met with a manager directing traffic, who very crudely told us go park in the parking lot of another business if we wanted to dine inside (only half the parking spaces are being utilized, presumably to help manage the extensively long drive thru - poor design).
While every other table was understandably marked off due to Covid precautions, the overall layout of the interior feels very small and didn't cope well with the amount of customers. When our food came, we requested napkins and ketchup (napkins are not out due to Covid precautions). We tried twice to ask for napkins but never got them.
The food? What can I say, it was pretty much Whataburger when cooked well. We both enjoyed our meals and it was comparable to many of the other dozen Whataburger's we've eaten at.
I'm happy to see another desperately needed Whataburger in Baldwin (and hope they add many more to fill the need). The food is good, but the larger issue lay with the mediocre service and execution. We also did not go on opening day, hoping the extra time would allow some kinks to be ironed out (this is also ignoring their opening was behind a week from the August 31 date on Whataburger's targeted Facebook advertisements).
My advice is, if you go for dine in or online pickup and the parking lot is full, park directly behind the AT&T store. It's the closest walk to the door and will avoid traffic. If you want to drive thru, be prepared for a long...
Read moreMy wife and I went here. I ordered the Dr. Pepper Shake cause I love them but when I heard the words, "Shake machine is broken" I was gutted! So my wife got the spicy chicken combo which she rated as "okay." I ordered the fish and I paid with rolls of quarters which the cashier proceeded to open up and count, slowly, one at a time. (I try to help them out with change whenever I can.) For my dinner, I ordered the "fish box" and when it finally arrived--several other orders came out that were ordered AFTER mine--the fries were limp and cold and the fish was dark & had a burned taste. As I was eating it, I remembered that this happened the LAST TIME I ordered fish: It had a metallic / burnt taste! (I think that the oil was too dark and that it needed to be cleaned /changed.) We had to ask for spicy ketchup and the napkins were out--on the counter. How does that happen? Serving food without any napkins? (I admit it, I can be messy.) Anyway, I ate the fish because I hadn't eaten all day and took the fries home . . . later that same day I ended up throwing them out. Whataburger, what am I going to do? My friend and I approached the entrance and were immediately meet by a group of not-so-sober men who began to harass us outside (no doubt due to my gender nonconforming clothing.)
We entered the establishment and the men followed us in and continued to harass us. We did our best to ignore the men but then something amazing happened.
They stopped.
I realized that the manager had stepped in and had made it clear to the men that their behavior was being monitored. I don't know what he said to them, but whatever it was I felt so protected by that man!
Then the other people in the establishment followed his lead and they were all watching the men like hawks. They created a safe space for me and my friend and I cannot thank them enough!
To Whataburger corporate: If y'all could do something special for the staff working on 11/28/24 @ 4:50 PM for what they have done, they totally deserve it. The receipt says Jason C. was at the register (he was a very kind face for us while our nerves were running high.)
And I don't know the name of the manager but, whatever he is in charge of, he needs to be put in charge of way more stuff.
