My partner and I had a meal at Ushio Sushi recently after eyeing it for awhile, and it was the worst experience. We were seated immediately and ordered food which arrived quickly. There is a large selection of food and alcoholic beverages. However, our waitress was kind of stand-offish, but I just assumed that this may be due to cultural differences or a language barrier. (Turns out it wasn't.) We ended up also ordering food to-go which was also delivered quickly (the kitchen is fast, although the food is not great). However, we waited awhile for our check. Our waitress never came over. My partner made eye contact several times and even tried calling her over but she ignored us. I was going to go up to the host podium in case we had to pay there but there was no one at the podium and no register there. At this point, we couldn't afford to stay any longer and it was impossible to find another server to grab our check. I felt bad, but we had no choice but to leave as it was clear that our waitress was not going to attend to our table any time soon. As soon as we got to our car, the waitress came out, offered no apology, and only said, "I'm busy" as to why we had to wait 20+ minutes. She proceeded to HIT MY CAR as we were leaving. She hit my car repeatedly and was not stopping, so I pulled out my phone to record her and she of course stopped right when she saw my phone. I was going to call back to the restaurant to pay over the phone or show up tomorrow morning when this waitress (hopefully) wasn't working to pay the bill when we had more time to wait a half hour for a check, but I just looked at my car and this waitress left not one but TWO dents in the roof of my car! I completely understand that restaurants are short-staffed right now and I've never not paid a tab (and as I said, I planned on coming back anyway when we had more time - I was actually nauseous after eating their food which is common according to other reviews below) - but damaging someone's personal property is absolutely unacceptable. I'm not sure what more we could have done. We were more than patient. Now I have to pay to fix my car because of this place! I am not sure of the waitress's name but she is the middle-aged female employee with an attitude problem and an apparently heavy hand.
EDIT: I ended up calling back the next day and paying the bill over the phone. I also ended up speaking with the manager on the phone. Apparently, the woman from last night said she "tapped" my car. The dents in the hood of my car prove otherwise. I am flabbergasted, though, because the manager didn't even comp any part of the meal as we were paying over the phone. Read more2025 - Wanted to update that they have been fantastic for a while now. Sushi is on point every time and the one time it wasn’t, they made sure to correct it. Always nice people whether you dine in or take out.
2024 - The sushi is still great but today was really disappointing. I got my usual AAC without asparagus and sesame seeds (which was fantastic) and salmon teriyaki to go. The salmon teriyaki was dry and flavorless. I called to ask if I could come in and change it for another AAC roll or something else and I was told that the manager said “we don’t do exchanges”. 🤦🏽♀️
So my crappy food gets dumped in the trash and I’m out $17 for a dish I didn’t eat. I think I’ll only order my AAC roll from now on and never bring family or friends here again since I think soon we will have a day when bad food is the standard and you can’t get your money back. Sad to say the least.
2022 - New improved Ushio has been much better since my last review. Great sushi, great food and great service. However now they are more expensive than high end sushi places.
A Philadelphia roll is 9.95 and a veggie roll is 8.95. On the website however, the prices are $1-$3 cheaper. They are trying to get it updated but for everyone who placed an order on the phone thinking they would get that pricing was very upset. This includes myself.
The fact that two rolls on average will cost $18, I’ll have to stop coming as often as I used to. Again, staff and food are great but these prices are higher than some of the 3 and 4 star sushi restaurants.
2018-This used to be my favorite sushi place in all of Broward County. They offered fresh fish, friendly staff and a great atmosphere. However after opening their new restaurant they whisked away the best staff and replaced them with staff who needed to be trained more (I once waited 20 mins just for water). Read more3 years ago i came to this restaurant, my scathing review is below. However i tried it again and this time i am leaving very happy. Seems they have different management but the same cooks!
The food is still terrific. But the service was very good unlike last time. For context the place was pretty empty. But i will be back.
I'm thankful that i had this great experience this time. So i really want to rate this place a 2.5. The food is really good. My fiance has been more times than me. The food is really good. Cooked well, flavorful, hot. 👍🏾
So... the service, well i am a melanin abundant gentleman and my fiance is a melanin abundant Queen. First we were skipped for seating for a melanin deficient family. This was addressed and the reason behind it was that the hostess didn't see our name on the list right above the family she sat. Next as soon as she sat us she asked if we knew what we wanted to order. No chance to crack open and peruse the menu. There were minimal check ups prior to being served and no check ups or refills after the food was served. We sat for 10 minutes after we finished eating waiting for wait staff to ask if we were ready for the check.
