Prepare yourself for an intimate and personal culinary journey at this Omakase haven in our college town. From the moment you step in, the cozy ambiance wraps around you like a warm embrace, setting the stage for an unforgettable dining experience.

The chef, a true master of the art of omakase, takes the reins of your gastronomic adventure. As each exquisite piece is expertly crafted and presented, you can't help but feel a personal connection to the culinary magic happening before your eyes. The chef's passion for their craft is apparent, creating an immersive experience where you feel a part of the sushi culture.

Seated at the intimate sushi counter, you're not just a diner; you're an honored guest. The chef carefully curates each course based on your preferences and reactions, turning the meal into a personalized expression of culinary art. It's a conversation between you and the chef, a silent understanding conveyed through the language of meticulously prepared dishes.

The pace of the meal allows for genuine connection. You're not rushed; instead, you savor each moment, appreciating the textures, flavors, and stories behind every bite. The staff's attention to detail and genuine enthusiasm enhance the feeling that you're not just enjoying a meal, but sharing in a unique and personal experience.

In this intimate setting, the boundaries between chef and diner blur, creating an atmosphere where the love for sushi and the joy of sharing it with others take center stage. Whether you're a seasoned sushi connoisseur or a newcomer to omakase, this place transforms a meal into a cherished memory, making every visit a celebration of the personal and the profound.

This gem is one that must be treasured and appreciated. The chef not only takes to heart his customers but the environment as well- choosing eco-friendly and sustainable fishing practices to make your dining experience guilt free. This is a chef truly passionate about his art.

I will forever be a patron of this establishment- encouraging this type of connection and mindfulness for the environment is what Davis is all about. I hope they are here for...

It would be very easy to tell you this place has fantastic food. Sushi and sashimi of the highest caliber and an eating experience that is not to be missed even if you have to come up from LA. Yes, it is that good. However, what's going on here at Hikari Sushi & Omakase is beyond just "good food". This is a place where you are enveloped in the art and passion of a team of shokunin - artisans of sushi. First, as you enter, you are greeted by a small but tastefully decorated room. There's humility in the décor with no wasted space at the front of house. Nothing is too bright or loud. Every possible need is seen to right away, including built in phone chargers at the bar seating. There's an effortless, deceptively simple luxury to the place that a connoisseur will immediately find themselves impressed with. Second, the service is flawless. This is a family run restaurant and customers are greeted warmly. Everyone has mastered the fine art of attentive without being overbearing, charming without being intrusive. Third and most important - the food. Everything is a feast. Your eyes are fed, your nose is fed, your tastebuds are fed to satiety. If you are doing the tasting menu, Chef will cover much of the history of the ingredients, talk about the technique and the whys of how each course is made. It can be so fascinating you can forget to eat! But eat you do and it is a joy to do so. The flavor combinations, the artful texture combinations - it's almost beyond me how they create such wonderful dishes. I spent over 2 hours eating and could have spent 2 more listening and learning. Maybe not eating, I felt quite full thank you.

Hikari is a gem. A real gem of a restaurant, perfectly cut by the years of experience chefs Sithu, Zheng & Andy have spent working at other restaurants, gaining skill and passion to create. Now, it shines brightly, in of all places, Davis, CA. Well, it's right along I80, so there's no reason not to stop by. It's a transcendent experience...

My first personalized fine dining experience that left me with nothing but the highest expectations for any other restaurant. The chef and his family provided such a person to person experience with everybody, recognized faces from his last sushi gig at a local co-op market, and remembered peoples personalities. I had not seen him in years but was still welcomed and treated so kindly as a person not just a customer. The service is just a bonus that adds to the immense flavors and passion in the food. Every dish was an experience on its own and most of them were a new food for me. Between the sourcing of the ingredients and the proteins, the preparations, and the sheer quality, this was one of, if not THE best dining experience I have ever had. The price is very reasonable for the amount of food you are getting and the environment you are seated in. Everything was designed and made by the family to fit the modern yet traditional style and space.

They were down 2 chefs the night I went, but still executed everything with haste and care. Amazing skill and ethic.

To add on to the excellent experience, after the meal the chef personally asked for any improvements or comments to make the experience and food better than it already is, and while I am personally not at a place to critique besides with positivity, it gives me a reason to go back and have another experience.

I have only praise and appreciation for this place. To the chefs and family, Thank You for an amazing night and a great conversation...
