We've been meaning to try this cafe for a while and finally got around to it. Our experience in a word is "unimpressed".
The first impression of this place is the interior. It's fine, but messy. It feels like you're walking into a friend's kitchen with things strewn about rather than a restaurant. But the staff is friendly!
We ordered a caprese panini, a beet salad, and two smoothies.
The smoothies were delicious. I really enjoyed my Blueberry smoothie and my girlfriend enjoyed her smoothie as well although it was a bit runny. Altogether, they mostly met expectations for $7 each.
The caprese panini was a huge disappointment. For $10, I got toasted sandwich bread, a few slices of tomatoes, thick slices of mozzarella, and a sprinkle of some dried herbs - I think garlic powder and basil - on top. It wasn't satisfying to eat and didn't have the fresh caprese flavor I was hoping for. For $10, I can get a whole lot more at Zia's or Nugget.
The beet salad was OK. For $10, we got a plate of beets, beet leaves, and some greens with balsamic, nuts, and cheese. Pretty standard, but nothing special.
All of this served on paper plates with plastic utensils.
In all, we spent $40 on lunch and left wishing we'd eaten elsewhere.
We were hoping for a lot more from this cafe, but we just can't...
Read moreI've tried this place twice and I really want to be able to give them more stars, but as of now I can't. The food is reasonably priced, but the options I've chosen (the Yolo bowl and tofu scramble) are just so lacking in flavor they're not that fun to eat. If this place were a little less afraid of salt, their food would be drastically improved. The cabbage and spinach in the Yolo bowl were just plain, un-dressed veggies, and could have used some vinegar or something. I had to add soy sauce and hot sauce at home to make them enjoyable. (I think it's the tofu part of this picture that has the most problems - pretty bland.)
If you do go here (and I don't discourage it, particularly if you're on the hunt for vegetarian food in Davis), I recommend trying a sandwich over one of the bowls or other plates. My boyfriend has chosen sandwiches both times we've gone, and those were much better than the bowls I chose (possibly because the bread has salt?). If I'd only tried the sandwiches, I'd definitely give four stars.
It really wouldn't take much for the quality of their plates and bowls to improve immensely for me, so I hope they do it and I can add more stars :) I'll keep trying their food because it's close to my house and I appreciate the...
Read moreI paid $11 for a smoothie bowl. I’m a smoothie bowl after a work out type of lady. I also like trying new things. So i happened upon TLC. It is a very cute place I liked the potential the place had. But altogether it was just lacking in liveliness.
The good parts of my experience was the staff and the smoothie bowl wasn’t bad. The staff that I interacted with were nice and helpful. My choice of açaí bowl was the green açaí bowl that has matcha in it . It had many fresh flavors that worked nicely as an assemble. The granola was probably the best part of the bowl for texture. Which leads me into the bad parts. The consistency of the smoothie base is entirely too watery! The base should be thicker than a smoothie. This is probably a problem because the smoothie base was also pretty warm, which is also not as appetizing.
ALSO!!!! I paid $11 for a smoothie bowl ! I’m sorry, I think that is entirely overpriced!! I get it it’s a fresh fruit and foods spot but that is a lot! ESPECIALLY for it to not be the best smoothie bowl...
