Philz Coffee — Restaurant in Davis

ohhhhh the things i would subject myself to just to get this coffee in Cleveland. i will never forget that mojito iced flavor. It is probably the best coffee in the world, The Beard Has Spoken.

Now more importantly the info you are looking for. The main reason I believe their drinks are so good, is no off the shelf syrup! Everything is sweetened with brown sugar (a whole new experience!)

Locations: I do not know all of their exact hours or locations. But i do believe their OG location is in the Bay area (mission district) they are in California and Chicago (IL)

I can tell you, they do their best if someone wants a specific type of drink, but with the materials they have on hand. (want syrup? get sugar! BUT, they do offer their other ingredients to try to get the flavor you are looking for!)

I went at 4pm and 715am on different days and the staff always made me feel awesome! I am from OH so I was honestly expecting the pretentious "this is special and you are nothing" mentality, but no. I felt like we should all hug before i left (which would make my coffee even better!)

but alas, i am depressed, as all i can do curl up in a corner in the fetal position, close my eyes and dream sweet dreams as i try to rememeber the amazing taste of the spectacular mojito that has slowly left my taste buds and is escaping my pallette all together...

Dear Mr Phil, I plead with you! I am on my knees giving you all my worldly possessions, ill even donate my entire family to work for you as the world is nothing and all of life is an empty void without the amazing taste of your coffee in my life.

Please come to Cleveland (west side) I have scouted locations for you, ill even map it out for you and do all the leg work! Heck, I'll build it by hand if i have too!

well, at least I get to enjoy the 4 cups of iced mojito coffee that i drank, it was so good i refused to try anything else!

Ok so I messed up bad because I’ve lived in Davis for years and today was the first time I’ve gotten coffee at Philz. I walked in filthy after working across the street and the employees were very friendly and the service was excellent. I ordered two coffees because I wasn’t sure about the mint mojito, usually if I have coffee right after brushing my teeth I regret it and instead I feel like I should’ve gotten two mojitos. I don’t know what they put in this thing but my cup is empty and I’m too embarrassed to go back in and ask Bella (I think that was their name) for another. So delicious but not syrupy or overly sweet. The mint is muddled but not torn to bits and leaving you picking it from your teeth, which I appreciate. The pastries are some of the best in town for sure as well, I got a couple of blueberry flakey goodies and if is a bite left at all for my partner when I get home it will be a miracle. 10/10 will be back...

Philz is the spot in Davis to get coffee, and only coffee - no espresso here folks. They exclusively offer flavored coffees, which is off-putting for fans of high quality beans. Basically, philz is for trendy folks that want exotic sounding drinks for a hefty price. A small coffee here is $3.50, so plan on splurging a bit.

I had the "Tantalizing Turkish" which is the closest thing to a normal dark roast coffee, only with cardemom and mint leaves added. I think it's decent, but even those flavors don't truly hide the heavily over-roasted beans.

The best thing about philz is the "experience". Philz has a startup feel as a company, and it comes through in the lobby of the store. There are comfy couches, lots of space - think cozy warehouse.

Overall, this is mediocre coffee dressed up with flavors. Some people are going to like that a lot. Kudos to them, but I will not...
