Dewey's Pizza - University of Dayton — Restaurant in Dayton

We had a recent visit to Dewey's on Jasper St last week that was very disappointing. We were greeted by a very nice and friendly young dark haired girl, who took us to our table. There were very few people inside. When placing our order, I requested extra peppercorn ranch dressing for our Dr. Dre pizza. Soon, a large party of people arrived as well as some individuals. When our pizza came, there was no ranch with it. I requested the dressing from the server, who was helping out the large party. Although others were helping them, she ran off to their table first. She eventually went to get our dressing, but only brought one tiny cup of it. We had the 17in pizza, so tiny cup would barely cover 3 of the slices. By this time, our pizza had started getting cold. I asked for more dressing, and specifically stated"we each" need more peppercorn ranch. The server runs off towards the kitchen area and returns almost 6 minutes later with one tiny cup. I was ticked. But not as much as I would later become. Once we'd eaten about 3 slices each, we started feeling like we were being rushed to finish up and leave. Different servers were constantly coming to the table trying to take our plates, box up our remaining pizza, and making my daughter want to leave. It was terrible, and left a very bad taste...

I’m always a fan of Dewey’s, so I was quite happy to find one so close to our new home in Dayton! And this location didn’t disappoint. It’s had the same great service and quality of food as any other I’ve been to.

On this particular day it was around 4:30p on a Thursday and there were only a few other tables that were full. This allowed the service to be extra attentive.

We love their salads here. In fact, even though I was a vegetarian for twelve years I never really liked salads until I tried on at Dewey’s. My go-to it the Grape and Candied Walnut (with mixed greens and blue cheese). But if you can catch the seasonal Harvest (with mixed greens, Boursin cheese, pepitas, figs and bacon), get that! You have the option of adding the cheese chicken, which I do if I’m having it as my entree and skipping pizza. In which case I get the full-size because it’s huge and perfectly filling!

Hubby and I also got a medium pizza - half Socrates Revenge (an old favorite) and Cubano (the current special). I actually ended up liking the latter even more!

I particularly love Dewey’s crust. It’s not overly thick, but also not thin and burnt. It has the best chew ever!...

Visited twice in one week - Saturday night prime time and following Saturday during early afternoon. The good is that the food is excellent, the salads and pizzas are really, really good and reasonably priced. Variety and selection is adequate and ingredients seems fresh and well prepared. The service is great as well, the Saturday night crew was impeccable. They are young and motivated and the catch phrase of the t-shirt about taking pizza to a new level is true. On top of it the guys in the kitchen entertained our kids all night by throwing flower on the window and making jokes. Thanks guys you helped make it a nice, relaxed night by keeping the kids occupied. Ambiance on Saturday night is nice even when super crowded and busy. The only "bad" is the ambiance and attention on a slow Saturday afternoon, you just sense it is a down time and the crew is less observant. Maximum score is awarded for impeccable, flawless service and experience out of the ordinary and Dewey's get really, really close. We will for...
