I usually don’t post negative reviews but I feel compelled to post this one so that others will be aware. I recently ordered a combination of 3 pizzas 1- Philly cheesesteak, 1- Chicago deep dish stuffed sausage, and New York pepperoni. First of all this cost me $109 plus $25 shipping. The pizza arrived in a foam box with ice packs. When I opened the box I found the ice packs had squashed my Philly cheesesteak pizza. The pizza were semi frozen, sauce was dripping a bit.
I cooked the Philly cheesesteak and pepperoni that same night. I followed the instructions on the package. The Philly cheesesteak came out full of grease and did not look like the pictures on the website - it was brown and so thin! The pizzas on then website were so much thicker. The pepperoni looked alright. The taste of both pizzas were extremely salty. It was a great disappointment. The Philly cheesesteak definitely didn’t taste like a Philly cheesesteak.
I contacted Bulls Bears and Squares and received a response from Samier who I believe to be the owner. He said they tested the pizzas and they were not salty and I may be the one with the low salt tolerance. He also said I shouldn’t have eaten it before making a complaint. If I didn’t eat it how would I know how it tastes!
I then sent him pictures showing the “false advertising“ for the pizza displayed on his site. They were definitely not the same as mine. He never responded back regarding the false advertising or even apologized to me. No wonder his business has to use Groupon to help his business.
Please do not order from this company it is not worth the price and is not that good. Frozen pizza from your local supermarket is better! Please see the pictures, the one on the left is the one I cooked and the one on the right is the one they post on their website.
You can not lie about the fact that the pizza I got did not look anything like the pizza they had...
Read moreI was so excited to try this place and felt majorly let down. The Dave Portnoy review they mention is not for this Pizza place ,but a frozen pizza business the owner had in 2020. But you got to give credit for getting an 8.4 from Dave for a frozen Pizza.
I saw coal fired pizza online and was expecting some crispy crust and some char on our pizza. Sadly neither could be found.
We were staying at a hotel for memorial day weekend and saw posts and recommendations for this place and we're excited to try it. We called and asked if they offered dine in and they said yes.
There is no parking around this place other than 30 min parking Infront, so I suggest you consider this place a take out place. Dine In? They have tables and chairs inside but they are crowded and the AC isn't sufficient for cooling the "Dinning Space". Also dine in here means we have some inside tables for you, and they will bring your pizza to you in a pizza box and point you to the counter with napkins and paper plates. It's really counter service with some self serve inside and outside tables. All of this would be minor if we got a 8.4 Dave Portnoy pizza. But that was not the case.
Placed our order for a sausage and pepperoni pizzas. Requested extra crispy / well done. With being advertised as a coal fire pizza, you would think that wouldn't be necessary. Well even after asking for well done, we got a floppy, soggy pizza. Sad to say that Costco Food court pizza had more crisp than this pizza. On the plus side, the pepperoni were good. They had a nice cup when cooked. Food service sausage balls were a disappointment. But they are not the only place to use them, our fault for not asking. Sauce was good. Crust seemed to have some potential if they had cooked it long enough.
They have coal fire pizza in their title but all We saw were standard gas Hobart pizza ovens. It's possible there was a coal fired oven somewhere , but nothing stood out as obviously being a coal fired oven.
Summary: too much flop / sog on the pizza, no crisp, no way this is an Dave Portnoy 8.4. our friend liked the salad they had there. But damn if you advertise Coal fire pizza, you better expect customers to expect some crisp to the crust. If you try this place I recommend saying "I want it well done" and have the person taking the order repeat it back to you. Then state if it's not well done enough you will make them remake the pizza. My guess is if Dave Portnoy reviewed the pizza we got, they would be lucky...
Read moreWe’ve lived in Volusia County for over 5 years and have found the local pizza restaurants to be rather unexciting. It’s not that we found Stavro’s, Lenny’s, Genovese’s and others to be bad – they just weren’t great or special. Let me tell you, though, we are now IN LOVE with Sam’s Coal Fired Pizza on ISB at the beach ramp. What first drew my attention to this pizzeria when they opened was that they serve NYC-style, Chicago stuffed, Detroit and Sicilian pies. If anyone else in Volusia serves Chicago stuffed or Detroit pizzas, I haven’t found them.
We went earlier this week and ordered a Detroit-style Brooklyn Special, substituting pepperoni for bacon. Measuring 10”x14” and about an inch thick, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing in Daytona when the pie hit our table. The dough was pillowy on the inside and crusty on the outside. The toppings were fresh and delicious, especially the meatballs. The sauce was amazing, featuring slices of tomato throughout. Cut into 8 rectangular slices, we were only able to get through 3 and took the rest home!
As you may know, the City and/or County are doing a long-term construction project on the ramp approach at ISB & A1A. It’s pretty much blocked off entirely for traffic and parking, causing a headache for the businesses, but the sidewalks are open. Sam’s noted on a Facebook post that parking is available on Grandview Ave and Davis St, both a block away. Sam told me they will be temporarily closing in September when the construction project will be running new utility lines under the building.
Speaking of Sam, this man is quite the gentleman and in love with pizza and his business! He enthusiastically told me about adding a Roman pizza to the menu soon. (It involves a different flour blend that requires tending to for multiple days to give it its airiness.)
If you want to place an order on the phone or Internet, you can find their menu online. Just note that if you want to know what their specialty pies (Brooklyn Special, Tuscany, Jersey Girl and others) include, you have to look at “Specialty Pizzas” to see the ingredients, which are not listed under Chicago, Detroit or Sicilian. So find your toppings there first and choose your pizza style next. The name’s the same for each pizza topping type. Or you can build your own of course.
We used to order frozen NYC, Chicago and Detroit pizzas from Goldbelly, but we don’t need to now! The Chicago deep dish stuffed is going to be our next adventure and I know we won’t be...
