Welcome to Florida, and have a wonderful day. So…we moved to Florida this year after some wonderful winter vacations. Our first winter, we stayed at the Deerfield Beach Wyndham. Around the corner from the hotel, we found a lovely Italian restaurant and pizza place called Amante’s and Bob’s, both owned by Robert and Cristina Amante, who were always pleasant, always kind. There used to be music and dancing in the street, and it was so much fun, we brought friends from all over south Florida to enjoy our find…until this year. Tonight was the second time we came to Amante’s this year. We were not thrilled at our last foray from Delray Beach down…first, no music, then the waitress spilled a glass of wine and a glass of water on me, as she tried her new balancing act. I got an ‘oops’, that was it, and the pizza, which used to be so cheesy and delicious was dried out. We figured, hey, anyone can have a bad night. We also noticed that a once packed outside seating of the restaurant had just two or three tables in use. We needed to find out more… So we returned. Guess who got to take a bath again tonight. Water and wine! Yup! I said perhaps you need to not carry three glasses at once? She said, ‘oops!’ Paul had gone to the men’s room, but we established what we wanted so I ordered. An Amante salad, followed by a slice of pizza each and lasagne to share. I reiterated, the salad first. Before you could whistle, out came a young man and our waitress, he carrying a slice of pizza. It was cold and lonely. I said to the waitress, I asked for the salad first. She said, do you want me to take the pizza away? I figured I’d see this hunk of nothing again when it’s even colder, so I assured her that it’s fine, I didn’t want her to scrap a slice. Yeah, right, like she would. Paul came back from the men’s room and they brought out the salad. I asked for his pizza too, since I figured this would be our appetizer course. The cheerful waitress said ‘right away’! The young man carrying the pizza to me said, ‘right away’! The manager, a young woman about 25, who walked Paul back from the bathroom said, ‘right away!’ I asked for it two more times, 15 minutes later, he got hot pizza! I was jealous. I asked the manager as she passed for oregano…the ‘right always’ continued…it was on every table but ours, any of the three people I asked could have reached over and secured one! Finally, I got up and got it myself, cutting my foot on the sharp leg of the iron chair. I asked for the manager…out she came. I explained what was going on…ohh…she didn’t like that! She told me her life story on why she couldn’t help us. It wasn’t about her. It was about the poor service. I told her we didn’t need her excuses! It wasn’t about her, and we were the customers, just a pleasant, I’m so sorry, we’ll do better would have sufficed. Ohhh…she didn’t like that! Two minutes later, the waitress came out with the bill, and I said we didn’t get our lasagne? She said, the manager wants you to leave! I said, US??! We were the ones wronged!! The manager came out and yelled you have to leave, I don’t want you here anymore. What? No more wine baths! No more cold food? The indignity of it all. Enter at your own risk, and for heavens sake, don’t complain about the service…they shoot foreigners in...
Read moreTerrible experience !!! My family and I have been customers for 8+ years.
I ordered Something very simple “Chicken Francese”and I requested linguini (versus spaghetti), I figured it’s not a problem to switch my pasta since it’s an Italian restaurant.
The waiter told me I could only have spaghetti, period (no pasta switching allowed)!!!
The manager came to the table with an ATITUDE a Brazilian lady (Automatically Speaking Portuguese) because she noticed we were Brazilian as well, (I FOUND THAT VERY DISRESPECTFUL TO BEGIN WITH) then she said yeah due to the kitchen being too busy (at 5PM) and it was not busy …. SHE (the manager) SAID ; we don’t switch pastas anymore, you can build your own select the pasta and add salmon, chicken etc…
I wanted “Chicken Francese” !!! Make long story short, I said I’ll just have what my boyfriend is having, so I asked does that come with linguini ????? The waiter said ; no spaghetti… I was very upset but I ended up getting Gnocchi and fries because I didn’t want to make a scene.
The waiter comes back to the table and tells me after we put in the order, 15 min later and said ; By the way, your boyfriend’s meal does COME WITH LINGUINE!!! Seriously!!!
This is the way I LOOK AT IT, if I was American and maybe if my boyfriend was white ? Would they switch the pasta ?
The other way to look at is … what kind of Italian restaurant does not do pasta switches? And if you are not switching pastas let me know when I arrive (I would’ve simply left) and gone to Louie Bossi's Ristorante Bar Pizzeria in Boca where I always have an amazing experience!!!!
This restaurant is very pricy (they should lower their Prices$$$$$$ because they are most definitely lowering “LACKING ON” customer service and quality) to be charging minimum $29+ $30+ per meal.
We had 4 drinks one appetizer and 2 meals bill was $160++ plus the $20 tip (I normally tip big time but I only left $20 because the waiter was terrible as well) never came to the table to check on us. He would stand by the hostess right in front of us and tried as much as possible not to make any eye contact !!!
When the waiter took out plates and silverware from our appetizers (crab cakes) he also took our forks and obviously since the meal arrived now we needed a new set of silverware to eat … it took 5 min or more for one of them to make eye contact and get us forks !!! Don’t recommend this restaurant and will let all my friends know so they don’t waste their time and money like we did !!!!!!!
Thank you for ruining my dinner, as you can see on the picture I...
Read moreThe food quality was noticeably better as takeout compared to dining in, which raises some concerns. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant for a special dinner, especially considering the over $100 price tag. In today’s competitive restaurant landscape, establishments—no matter how long they've been in business—need to consistently elevate their offerings.Having enjoyed authentic pizza and handmade pasta in Italy, I was expecting a true Italian dining experience, but what I encountered felt more Americanized than Italian. If a restaurant claims to offer Italian cuisine, I believe they should embrace their heritage and deliver a more authentic representation. The appetizers, specifically the mussels, were underwhelming. In Italy, it's common to lose track of how many mussels are served as part of a generous appetizer, but here, the portion was quite disappointing. Similarly, the mozzarella sticks during happy hour seemed more suited to an American diner than an Italian establishment. The hot sub was another letdown. The waitress tried to advise me on how to order it to avoid insulting the chef, but her suggestions made little sense, and I wasn't impressed. Additionally, the hot beef and onion sub was far from fresh, tasting like it had been sitting around for a while. As for the Sicilian-style pizza, it was a far cry from what you'd expect in Sicily. It felt more like a generic offering than a true representation of Sicilian cuisine. While the ambiance may appeal to some, I suspect many of the patrons haven’t experienced authentic Italian food, which may explain their satisfaction. Overall, I can only give this restaurant 3 stars. There’s definitely room for improvement, and I hope they take the opportunity to refine their offerings...
