My wife and I have been loyal customers for over 20 years at this Bob Evans restaurant across from University Plaza Shopping Center. We went there for breakfast this morning, arriving at 9:10am. The place was not busy, and despite seeing several empty tables, the hostess strangely took our name and asked us to have a seat and she would call us once a table became available. A few minutes later, she seated us and gave us menus! This is when the true disappointment began. It was almost 15 minutes before our waitress came over! She took our drink orders of 2 coffees, and it took her another ten minutes to return with the coffee. She took our food order, then disappeared for 35 minutes! She then looked over at me glaring at her waiting on another table and she shouted across the dining room asking if I needed her for something. She then came over to our table when I asked about our food, and asked for a refill on our coffee. She curtly said, " I will check with the kitchen and I will be right back with the coffee." She disappeared for another 20 minutes and came out with our food sans the coffee. When I reminded her she abruptly left and returned ten minutes later with the coffee. When I asked her the reason for the long wait, she shrugged her shoulders and said, "I dunno! You will have to ask the kitchen. I have no control over the kitchen!" My cinnamon supreme pancakes were undercooked and white on topside. Side of sausage patties were pink inside. Food was lukewarm. Coffee had a strong acidic after taste. It was not drinkable with the first cup. I thought a refill would produce a better cup. It produced a worse cup! It took 45 minutes to get our food. Several staff were just standing behind the counter drinking coffee and chatting. I was able to get our waitress's attention and asked for the Manager. I observed that he was cooking on the grill in the kitchen and came to our table. When I informed him of the terrible service, he cut me off and said, "You don't mean Jean do you? Older lady, greyish black hair, glasses?" He described our waitress but he was dismissive to anything we said. He said, "Well, since you claim to be regular customers, then you know it is not the norm here. I am sorry that happened. " He abruptly walked away! Our waitress stayed out of sight for another 20 minutes before I flagged her down to get our check. This place has really gone down hill. Food undercooked! Portions smaller. Prices increased. Service deplorable! Manager cooking. No one in the kitchen wearing hats or gloves. Girls behind the counter brushing their long hair around food! Will not...
Read moreExtremely disappointing. Went about 4:30 on a Thursday. The place wasn't busy at all. Waitress was polite but distracted. I ordered the Pot Roast Hash and potato cheddar soup, unsweetened iced tea. My son ordered the Border scramble. The waitress brought out the food. My son's looked like they poured cheap jarred salsa on it, all runny and swimming in liquid. No cheese, sour cream, or anything that was supposed to come with it. That includes the hash browns, which we had to remind the waitress to get. After he was finished with the omelet the hash browns showed up. They were obviously reheated in a microwave, barely cooked and cold. And no bread was offered even though it was supposed to be part of the meal. My hash came out as ordered, more or less. Again, no bread as per the menu. She forgot about the soup until, after being reminded, she brought out what I can only guess was potatoes in some type of Mac and cheese sauce. No bacon on top, no garnish of any type. Brought out a sweetened iced tea instead of the unsweetened I had ordered. And that was after a second reminder. After dropping off the food she disappeared until it was time to get the check. Never came to check on us, see how the food was, refills on drinks, nothing. There was a kid of about 7 or so running rampant around the restaurant. In the aisles, behind the counter, pretty much anywhere he wanted. Now I understand difficulties with child care but seriously? Went to pay and was asked "how was the meal?" by a different server. I said the complaints were too numerous so she asked if I wanted to talk to the Mgr. I chose not to bother because after reading other reviews of this location it seemed a waste of time. I do regret that decision. I will be forwarding a copy of this to the corporate...
Read moreWhat a difference a state makes. A couple or so years ago my daughter and I were in Vineland and she wanted to get some dinner so we decided to check out a place that we had not been to since she was a toddler, probably 15 or more years ago. It was of course a Bob Evans Restaurant and it was a good choice of the many in the area. Service and food were both good and I even brought home some of the boxed deserts they have by the checkout which if you know me that is a rare occurrence. A couple months later we decided to make a special trip down there just for dinner but to our dismay saw that the restaurant had been closed down and windows boarded up. A few months later we were in Cherry Hill and since I knew that there had been one on Rt. 73 I decided to see if they were closed as well but they were not so we got another good meal and even returned a couple more times. Now fast forward a year or so to a trip we took into Delaware to Cabelas that when we were done I googled for restaurants in the area other than those that we would have been to and saw there was a Bob Evans and since we'd had so much success in South and Central Jersey I decided to try them out. From the time we arrived a little after 8:00 to the time we left the only bright spot was that after waiting 10 minutes to be noticed that we were even there the hostess was very helpful in giving us a seat that worked well with my 4 week old grandson on his first visit to a restaurant. Not wanting this to be too long I will say look at the pictures and tell me if you think that dried up piece of chicken hiding a smidgen of mashed potatoes looks like an 8 dollar dinner that I had to wait forever to get, it's not. I won't be back unless forced to go by...
