First off, I would have given Bun's negative stars if I could... too bad. We went there today at 11am when they opened for Mother's day brunch. I had looked up the menu ahead of time, having never been there before. I had made online reservations earlier in the week because originally I was trying to book at 1808 but they were all booked. I never got a confirmation of my reservation, just a screen shot. I called the next morning. A young gentleman answered the phone and passed me off to the owner. It sounded like an older gentleman. I explained my situation and it sounded as if he was simply notating my reservation, instead of having actually received something from the website. He made it clear they open at 11am, no earlier. We got there, and he wasn't kidding... he didn't open the door till exactly 11am, but then had the wrong key so, technically they opened at 11:01am. Whatever, right. We were first to go in. We got seated at the table by the door and window. It took about 20 minutes before anyone came to even bring us menus or water. We had to ask multiple times for menus. Then we get brought their normal menu, then the owner comes out with a printed paper, and now the menu became a special mother's day menu, which had no brunch items. We had a party of 7. We had 3 orders of chicken Florentine, a burger, and eggplant parmisean. The menu was VERY limited, and even the waitress told us it was created the night before. We noticed all menu options were very high priced, nothing under $15. We made sure to order as soon as the waters came because it had already taken some time. Within the next 30 minutes, we received some bread, and the side salads for those that ordered them. The salad was literally large chunks of iceberg lettuce with one slice of tomatoe and one slice of cucumber. A manager later came by and told us they couldn't serve us the Chicken Florentine because it wasn't prepped right. They were starting a new batch but we couldn't order it. We were told to change our orders. We mostly switched to chicken parmigiana. We waited another 30 min as the dirty dishes sat and I got up to ask the owner what was taking so long. He said, "OH, your food is next to come out." I was like okay because we were the first to walk through the door. We sat for another 15 minutes and this time I wasn't having it. I stood by the kitchen eyeing the owner, he finally looked my direction and I told him 2 of my party had to now leave because of other engagements and they never got food. He said sorry but we are working on it. I said, should we just leave then, and he said if that is what you need to do.... I walked back to the table and told my family we were leaving. We walked out! I have never in my time had such bad experience. For an owner to have no care.... he needs to not be running a restaurant. And based off the reviews I read, after the fact, sounds like my best mothers day gift was the fact that I didn't have to experience their crappy food, while also not wasting a dime on this place!!!! Happy Mother's Day to me!!! We ended up eating off of Costco food samples. The food was amazingly hot, fast,...
Read moreMy friend was showing me around Delaware as she goes to school here. Neither have had Buns before and it looked like a cute place to eat. We got there around 2:30ish and we’re seated in an slightly longer amount of time due to short staff. We get it- we’ve worked in the food industry before, not a problem. Literally as soon as we were seated, the waitress came up and took our order for our drinks. We sat in the covered patio area and there’s was only a few others eating outside. Our waitress brings our drinks and asks if we are ready. I asked for a couple more minutes and boy, a couple more minutes did she give. She forgot about us. Although she waited on the table near us, AND made eye contact with my friend, she just smiled and carried on. She never came by to check on us or whatnot. The older couple at the table who was also being waited by her even noticed me trying to get the waitresses attention and told me that “they’ll flag her down” for me. She comes in and out taking their dishes and checks and finally get her attention. It’s been ~35 minutes and we haven’t ordered. I explain that we haven’t ordered yet and she doesn’t seem apologetic and just looks at us. “Oh I’m sorry nobody assigned a waitress to your table” ok that’s not true because YOU took our drink orders, but whatever 🙄. Wait another long time for food and it felt like as soon as we get the food, she’s coming back to rush us out. She did assume our check was together and to add to the whole “forget” issue, this whole experience felt as if we were being looked at by staff (and sometimes other customers 😳). I mean considering that my friend and I don’t look like, and aren’t straight people, it felt as if our appearances were the cause for this odd behavior from our. Although Delaware is a liberal place, I urge LGBTQ+ friends to be careful. Sorry Elizabeth, I don’t want to talk about the odd size of the to go containers after waiting 30...
Read moreI have over 19 million google contributor views, mostly restaurant reviews. Unfortunately this is a one of two negative reviews I’ve given . I’m a native of Delaware Ohio. I remember when the Hoffman‘s own buns when it was a prestigious restaurant to eat at. Sadly, I had a very bad experience at Buns’s restaurant today. First of all the table was sticky on the top… wow I have no idea how to remedy that except replace the tables. First of all the waitress listed five different things on the menu that they did not have. One of the items was the stuffed flounder ….thats what I was going to order. Ended up ordering a fish sandwich. Ordered at 12:30 PM at 1:15 PM … 45 minutes later a family inquired about our food. The waitress we asked, said she didn’t see any orders in the back. Finally the guys that was seating, people tried to explain what was happening…… “they had run out of the normal fish and had to use a substitute that was much thicker, therefore causing a long cook time.” Long story short at 1:40 … we had been there an hour and 20 minutes we were finally served our fish sandwich. It did not come with the jalapeño poppers or the baked potato I ordered with the sandwich. I looked at deep-fried fish, and it looked overcooked almost black. My wife had ordered the same thing and we both returned our meals. Five minutes later, we decided to leave still had not seen the jalapeño poppers or the baked potato. No one asked if I could be compensated, in any way. Other members in the family had part of their orders still missing… it’s now 1:50 and I’m leaving. I was there earlier in the summer, and it seemed as though they were understaffed. The food was mediocre. Sorry, buns restaurant you might want to take care of keeping items on the menu stocked and keeping the...
