Saketumi, located at 18814 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach, DE, is a hidden gem offering a diverse menu of Japanese, Korean, and Asian fusion dishes. During our recent lunch visit, we were thoroughly impressed by the exceptional quality and variety of the food, complemented by friendly and attentive service. The modern and stylish atmosphere, with two floors of dining and lounge space, added to the overall experience, making it a perfect spot for both casual meals and special occasions.
Atmosphere and Ambiance
Saketumi’s contemporary design creates a welcoming and upscale vibe. The restaurant features two floors, with the second floor offering a private dining area complete with its own bar, ideal for events or large gatherings. The clean, modern decor and comfortable seating made our lunch visit enjoyable and relaxing, setting the stage for a memorable dining experience.
Appetizers: A Flavorful Beginning
Our meal began with a delightful selection of appetizers that showcased the restaurant’s attention to detail and flavor. The Lettuce Wrap and Roll featured tender, sautéed ground chicken served with crisp iceberg lettuce, offering a fresh and interactive start to the meal. The Edamame, steamed soy beans lightly seasoned with sea salt, was a classic and satisfying dish, perfectly prepared to highlight its natural flavor. The Vegetable Spring Roll was crispy on the outside, filled with a delicious mix of shredded cabbage, carrot, and glass noodle, and paired with a sweet chili sauce that added a delightful kick. The Chicken Gyoza, expertly cooked with a savory chicken filling and a crispy exterior, were a crowd-pleaser.
Soup: Comfort in Every Sip
The Miso Soup was a warm and comforting addition to our meal, with a well-balanced blend of tofu, scallions, seaweed, and mushrooms, preparing us for the main attractions.
Sushi Rolls: A Culinary Masterpiece
The sushi rolls were the undeniable highlight of our lunch, each one a testament to Saketumi’s creativity and commitment to quality. The Rainbow Roll was a visual and culinary masterpiece, featuring kani, avocado, and cucumber inside, topped with vibrant slices of salmon, tuna, yellowtail, white tuna, and avocado. The Tuna Tuna Surprise was a surprising treat, combining blackened tuna and asparagus with sweet goma sauce and wasabi aioli, topped with tuna, tobiko, and chives. The Crispy Calamari & Spicy Tuna roll offered a fantastic contrast of textures, with fried calamari, scallions, and spicy mayo inside, topped with spicy tuna and drizzled with sweet soy sauce. The Spice Girl roll was bold and spicy, featuring crunchy spicy salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and avocado wrapped in soy paper, topped with tobiko and spicy kim chi sauce. The Kamikaze Roll was a harmonious blend of tuna, salmon, and yellowtail, topped with spicy crabstick, crunchy elements, and spicy mayo. Lastly, the Yellow Tail & Scallion roll was simple yet elegant, highlighting the pristine quality of the yellowtail, complemented by the subtle bite of scallions.

ATMOSPHERE: Went there for a second time. Atmosphere was a bit darker than I remembered. Not very lit but refined. Although I wasn't a fan of our seats, my boyfriend enjoyed it in there. It was also pretty quiet and laid back. The customers seemed nice. THIRD TIME WE WENT: it was busy. Customers were loud. They said it would be a 40 min wait on a Tuesday night at 7pm. But thankfully they were able to seat us anyway so we were super happy :)
BATHROOMS: The bathrooms weren't the best. The trash was over flowing. They still have push handles for the toilets like you'd have at home. (I prefer handles so I can use my feet.) It was pretty dirty but that's ok. I only had to use it once and I understand because I'm assuming they were short staffed. Wasn't enough for me to tell them. I didn't want to cause issues. 3rd time: bathrooms where a bit better! Trash was full but wasnt over flowing.
SERVICE: seating was very quick. Almost instant. The host and our server where very nice. Even tho she had a busy section I thought it was extremely impressive how she took the time to explain things to us. Brought us drinks. The drink menu again after she took it but my boyfriend wanted another. She gave us our apps. And she had to go back and forth to help my boyfriend pick out what he wanted since they were out of red snapper and sea bass. She handled everything very professionally and made sure we had everything we needed and we were happy with our meal. 3rd waitress was very happy. Bf complained that she was impersonal but I liked her. She was very busy and had a lot to take care of so it's understandable. I think she also had issues with unhappy customers and it's sad that people want to complain about stupid things to people who have no control over anything that's happening.
FOOD: Although previously stated. They were out of red snapper and sea bass and didn't really make that known to us when ordering because they weren't aware of it until we tried to order. My bf was the first to order the red snapper tonight. Everything else we ordered was honestly the best I've had. I'd go there again over Miyagis or Tokyo steakhouse house. I got the udon and was able to add spiciness to it and it was the best noodles I've had in awhile. It hit the spot. My bf ended up going with the Mahi Mahi which was kinda small but it filled him up anyway. It was also a bit dry on the ends. All in all we were very pleased. The drinks were super strong too. 3rd time: I got the udon again and it still wasn't spicy enough for me. They also put red pepper flakes in there and I really don't like small hard things in my noodles. So kinda disappointed but my bf was finally able to try the red snapper and he loved it! Something crazy and unique if you want a special dining experience. The miso soup is the best I've ever had from any Japanese...
Read moreLooking at this place from the exterior and their website, it looked like a good place to eat. Very misleading and so disappointing. I made a reservation but it wasn’t needed. The place was pretty empty. We were greeted immediately by the server upon being seated. They have a rather decent menu. We started with some appetizers, the Saketumi Appetizer Platter which consist of coconut shrimp, chicken satay, spring roll, shrimp & pork shumai, and crab Rangoon. I told the server I was allergic to mushrooms immediately upon ordering. The description for the vegetable spring roll was shredded cabbage, carrot and glass noodle. I asked if the spring roll was the same as in the platter and she said yes. The order comes and my guest takes the spring roll and their is mushroom in it. Well thank goodness she took that first and not me as it could have killed me. They were very greasy as well. The shumai wasn’t good at all. Small shrimps mushed in with the pork just didn’t work. The chicken satay was extremely dry. The coconut shrimp was good and the crab Rangoon was ok but very small and not much crab in it at all. I also ordered the addicting cucumber salad and sweet potato tempura roll. There was nothing addicting about the cucumber salad and the sweet potato tempura roll was very good but more tempura than sweet potato. Decent portion size for the price too. My entree was the hibachi sirloin steak which comes with a bunch of vegetables (I requested no mushrooms) miso soup and salad. The miso soup was very salty and had tofu in it. I never received my salad. The sirloin steak was not good at all. It did come out without mushrooms but the steak was grizzly, fatty and so tough I couldn’t eat it. Small portion too for the price. It tasted horrible! No sirloin I ever had tasted like this. I had to send it back and it was removed from the check. It left a bad taste in my mouth so I did not order anything else. Before my guest was done with half of her meal, the server brought the check to the table. No offer of anything else or if we would like dessert just the check. This I found to be very rude. With all that being said, no, I won’t return and no, I don’t recommend...
