I am completely appalled and astonished by the horrible service my mom and I experienced today. Every aspect of the experience, from my scheduling the reservation to every interaction during our Mother's Day visit was painful. When I called to make reservations, the girl I spoke to continued to put me on hold and was not able to answer simple questions. I was patient and grateful to be fit in somewhere to surprise my mom for Mother's Day. At the end of the phone call, after confirming the time for my reservation, the girl said "hopefully we can squeeze you in". That was the point of making a reservation, either you have space or not. It didn't leave me feeling confident that there would be room for us the day of.
When my mom and I arrived on Mother's Day, no one greeted us and we stood upfront maybe 15-20 minutes for a table. It was very apparent they were busy which is understandable, but I realized how few tables were being addressed and how many people were waiting for something. Upon being seated, I immediately asked for some water for my mom and I, as it was noticeably warm and uncomfortable in the tight dining room. A woman brought us a carafe of water but with no cups to drink from. No one ever came by to greet/welcome us, thank us for coming, offer us anything, see if we needed anything, let alone explain what we would be getting and take our order. After about 5-10 minutes I was able to wave a server down from across the room and make a motion asking for cups.
Later someone brought us a 3 tiered tray with small bites to eat without saying anything, and I asked if someone could please lower the air as it was very warm. No explanation was given to us regarding the food (what if someone has a food allergy). By now we had been sitting for maybe 25-30 minutes and no one had asked us what we wanted in terms of tea etc.. Again I had to wave someone down and ask if we could order our tea after we finally received menus.
Confused by our experience, I tried to give them a pass and was patient but the basics of service are completely lacking, even when the bulk of customers had left. A while later I noticed that other tables received a bowl of salad before they even received their 3-tier tray, so when it had calmed down, I politely asked a server if we should have received soup/salad with our food. We should have and were never offered any, again no apology was given for the oversight. Overall the service was nonexistent, forcing you to repeatedly and awkwardly flag anyone down and ask for help (and then ask someone else when the first person wouldn't remember.)
I had to go up to the front to ask for a box/the check as no one ever came to check on my mom and I.
Upon paying the bill, the girl asked if we had two "Abigail" tier meals and I confirmed we did. She then looked at my glass and the carafe of water and said she thought that looked like prosecco. I was completely offended that this server would even remotely suggest I was lying (that I ordered a higher tier and was not willing to pay for it). I paid by bill and signed the receipt, told her thank you, and did not get so much as a response from the staff member as she walked away with an attitude. Never in my life have I been to a restaurant where the server does not even thank you at the end of your meal.
I am so disappointed as I wanted to make my mom feel special for Mother's Day. I would never recommend coming to this business. For the prices you pay, you are better off going to the plenty of other restaurants available that will actually appreciate your patronage and treat you with courtesy...
Read moreMy family loves tea and we love the experience of going to tea rooms, especially when traveling. We have found some excellent tea rooms across the country and order loose tea online regularly from our favorites. While visiting family in South FL, we chose Tealicious in Delray Beach. We enjoyed our experience, but this was not the best tea room that we have been to. The Tuscan chicken soup and the chicken salad were delicious!
We judge tea rooms on two things, their scones and their tea selection. The scones were small and pretty good. We liked that they were on the dryer side because we dislike cakey scones. The tea selection was larger than most tea rooms with 30ish to choose from. I shared my flavor preferences with our server, Heathher, and she did not speak highly of the ones I had selected. The two she spoke of highly were the Earl Grey and Chocolate Mint. I am not a fan of plain black or rooibos teas, so I chose White Strawberry. White teas are typically light in color, and this one looked like a black tea in my cup. I liked the Chai tea. My daughter loved the caramel tea. Many tea rooms leave the tea in the pot at your table, but we prefer our tea bag to be removed so the tea stays perfect rather than becoming bitter. I recognize this is personal preference as it seems to be 50/50 in our experience if the tea continues to steep in the pot at your table or not.
The food was generally good. The desserts seemed to be the only thing that was not house made.
The service was good when we were the only table. This was the first tea room out of 16, where the tier was dropped off without an explanation of the items. Most were self-explanatory with the traditional cucumber sandwich and then egg salad, chicken salad, and a broccoli quiche. We believe the scones were strawberry, and one was raisin or craisin. There were assorted desserts. The kids' tea service was exceptional! There were so many delicious things on their tier, and they loved all of it. Heather brought out a surprise drink for them at the end, which was a lovely touch that they also enjoyed. A few family members ordered a salad with a generous scoop of chicken salad on top, and they...
Read moreWe had a delightful time! The decor and ambience is charming, the service attentive and warm, and the food is delicious! There were many menu options (including salads and sandwiches besides sweet treats) and a huge selection of teas, it was wonderful. We had a visitor from England with us and wanted something different from the area’s usual dining options. We shared two full high-tea services as wells as a couple of other items. Superb! The scones are light and perfect served with real clotted cream. The croissants were served warm and crispy filled with chicken salad. There were egg salad and cucumber sandwiches (no crusts!), mini quiches, and mini cakes and macarons. Plus some fresh fruit.
The ambience makes you feel mikes away from this retail area! We loved the way the tables were laid, the assortment of fine China in pretty patterns and groupings… There were hats to borrow and wear while you were having tea, but also a separate rack of hats for purchase. You can also buy teacup and saucer gift sets.
What a charming place offering an escape from the usual hustle and bustle. This would be ideal for get together like ours, ladies’ lunch get togethers, bridal or baby showers, or parties.
Highly recommended!
The owner is also warm and welcoming. She’s from Brazil but put on a proper English tea (according to our English visitor!). We were happy to meet her and enjoy...
