Chinatown Cafe — Restaurant in Denton

This was the second worst Chinese buffet I ever ate at. I have eaten at a ton of different Chinese buffets throughout the metroplex over the years. I have my favorites but I thought I would try a new one in Denton. This had the best online reviews and so I tried it. I showed up just before 7pm on a Wednesday. What food was left had been sitting out for a long, long time. The outside edges had already crusted over in most cases from just sitting there. I kept trying a little of various things to try to find something decent. I should have just walked out and regret not doing so. They didn't even label things correctly. Many, many things were labeled with something other than what was there. Granted, you can usually guess that something with bones in it isn't "fried broccoli" but it just shows how little they care. The baked salmon was out and after asking for it to be replaced four times they finally brought out something that resembled cat food with cheese on it. The Mongolian grill barely had anything left but I tried it in an attempt to find something somewhat decent. Hopefully I don't get sick from eating their food. The online reviews were either wrong, or they went downhill fast. Either way, I'd avoid this...

I have lived down Bonnie Bre for almost 20 years(next year). This Chinese buffet compares to no other in Denton. My parents and I started coming here in 2006 when we moved into our new house just down the street. I loved it then from the yummy hot buffet, sushi bar, hibachi flat top, and dessert bars. And I still love it to this day. Now, as a parent myself, this is one of my own children's favorite places to grab dinner. So much so that the wait staff are fully familiar with myself and our children. We often get 5-7 to-go buffet meals. Given our own boxes and soup cups, my children and I load up on our individual favorites. It's still so fresh and delicious when we return home. What can not be talked about more, however , is the comfort and familiarity of this establishment. 20+ years, this restaurant has been serving the Denton community at Bonnie Bre and Windsor. I only gave the food a 4 start rating because, occasionally, refills of buffet items can be a little slow during their peak service times, leading to unavailable or unsavory items.

After seeing a sign outside the restaurant saying "Grand Re-opening", my husband and I thought, "Hey, why not give this place a shot. Who knows maybe Chief Robert Irvine (from Restaurant Impossible) came by and road house kicked the place and turned it into a successful restaurant" And you know what? I THINK IT IS! Now, don't know for sure who was actually behind the whole renovation of the place but it's actually THE first Chinese buffet restaurant that actually impressed me. I was so surprised! The food was hot, FRESH, and of course very delicious. They had a nice variety of foods. I especially liked the fried rice and the Orange Chicken(there was actually a really orange peel, thats also how I knew how fresh it was) because from having experienced from various unsatisfying Chinese buffets in the past, I just cannot get over how delicious and FRESH it was. The place inside was BRIGHT, clean, and beautiful. The bathrooms were nice (the Ladies room). The waiters, waitresses, and other staff members were very nice, organized, and caring. My overall experience was great and I hope that they keep up the awesome work that they are doing because I will be back...
